I am considering a new truck, does anyone here own a Trail Boss? Any insight on whether it would be best to wait until end of year for a better sale? Considering the V6 vs the V8-dont town more than a 12 foot jon boat right now..

Can you get a V6 at that trim level? Probably they only ship with the V8s (5.3/6.2 I think).

I would consider the V8 vice a V6, you will not regret it. If you are worried about gas mileage, learn to keep your RPMs down and let that V8 purr. I'm not certain if they will have a V6 in that trim level. If you assist on the V6; consider just a 4x4.

You might want to read the reviews on the new GM trucks before buying. They are not real good.

Those bad reviews are from those same four nerd's at consumer report's. Next to Ford they make the best truck's out there.

The bad reviews are mostly directed at the 8speed transmission.

Because they can, they sell 4 times as many trucks as say Toyota or Nissan, but year to date the two GM trucks are the only ones with positive sales over last year every other truck is down. I just look at the sales numbers buddy, you think all these people are buying bad trucks?

Purchased a 2020 LT Trail Boss, 10 speed V8 with 1,290 miles. Truck had all the extras leather, sun roof, all the packages, bed liner, technology etc. So far I am very happy with my new (used) truck. Henna Chevy offered my 4500 more for my trade then Don Hewlit in Georgetown. Purchased vehicle with original MSRP of 59k for 46,150. Went to 3 different dealers before i made a purchase.

Yep they are. Toyota sells as many as they can produce. I was a hard core Ford owner for 30 years. To me there was no other choice. Then one day I had enough. Since I have owned Toyota trucks I have never had a truck in the shop for anything but free oil changes. Nor have I done any repairs myself.

What kind of fuel mileage are you getting ?

So far averaging 15 MPG but mostly city driving at this point.

My dad has owned one Ford, one Toyota, a half dozen Chevy's, and is finally trying out Ram. I can tell you that he will never go back to a Toyota or a Ford. The Ford was unreliable. The Tundra rode rough, towed poorly, had a horribly outdated interior, got terrible mpg, and cost more for the year/miles than any other brand. The Chevy's have mostly been good, but the new half ton chevy's are mostly gutless when it comes to towing, so my dad has gone to the Ram with the 5.7L hemi. Honestly it's a comfortable, smooth-riding, powerful, affordable truck. I don't think any new half tons compete with it very well, and somehow it costs less and is still assembled here, and has one of the most reliable and smooth-shifting transmissions out there. Many guys on my old ecodiesel forum had over 300k miles on the original transmission (mostly towing) with zero issues. In fact, I'm not sure I've heard of one breaking down. I'm sure it happens, but not much.

That being said, I don't care for the Ram 2500/3500 at all - they're assembled in Mexico and I'm out on that. When I went from half ton to 3/4 ton, I went back to Chevy and it's been a good truck. I had a loaner F-150 a while back and didn't care for it at all. Drove my dad's Tundra and thought it was the worst value for a half ton that I'd ever seen. It couldn't tow nearly as well as my Ram Ecodiesel at the time, which didn't tow as well as my Ram hemi. And it rode horribly rough unloaded.

Chevy's 5.3L is just a dog of a motor with any weight behind it. I drove one for many years. Maybe it's better now, but I'm not going back to it anytime soon. But I'll admit I haven't tried to tow with the new Chevy half ton trucks. I know the 6.2L is good, but premium gas and only offering it at high trim levels kills any appeal to me.
