Is he still a he?

Is he still alive?

A few years ago a package showed up on the front stoop. I opened it up and it was an assortment of Maytag cheeses. The card inside had a name that neither the Wife or I recognized so I took a look at the box and realized it wasn't addressed to us by name but had our house number on it. My Wife grew up on the street and she didn't know the name so we were stumped.
This was about 5:30-6:00 in the evening but I knew this was not an inexpensive gift because I used to deal with Maytag back when I was in the hotel/restaurant business. So I tried calling Maytag to try and figure it out. I got a real nice lady on the line and over the course of a couple hours and a few back and forth phone calls we were able to backtrack track the order and figure out where it belonged so I delivered it.
The next week there was another package from Maytag addressed to me. It was a thank you from the customer service lady I dealt with.

well, uh... candlesticks always make a nice gift, and uh, maybe you could find out where she's registered and maybe a place-setting or maybe a silverware pattern. Okay, let's get two! Go get 'em

I had a buddy help me with some medical stuff many years ago , he was one of those guys that never does anything for himself but is always helping others .
I bought him and his wife a $200 gift certificate to a very famous Steak house ( where the steak itself is $50-75 per person ) . They would NEVER treat themselves to something like that and they loved it .

Don't give knives as gifts. Can symbolize cutting the friendship.

Ridiculous

One day my daughter called my crying and asked me to loan her like $6,000 for a new central air unit (it was August here in Texas and she was six month pregnant with my first grandson).. She said her AC quit working and she called a local AC company and she would need a new AC unit. The house if like 10 years old so I told her to just hold on and I called a buddy who is an HVAC guy and asked if he could check out my daughters AC unit. He lives in Dallas and my daughter and family lived in Azle. He said sure he could do that. He would not take a dime form me, not even for gas.

He went out there and their "new AC" was only a capacitor which had blown and cost (his cost) about $5 in parts to fix. So he got the up and running in maybe 10 minutes. Son-in-law called the AC company and chewed him (the owner of the company) a new A-hole.

I gave my buddy a Doby's rod and Shimano Curado reel (he's a Smimano guy) for helping her out.

years ago I hired a young girl and after she had been with us a few months, she started going through a rough time....new baby then a divorce that caused her to miss a lot of time from work and she had a hard time focusing on learning and doing her job....have to admit a few times I thought this isn't working out but I stuck with her and she turned into a great employee..

she worked with us several years then remarried and moved to another city.....things have really worked out well for her...happy marriage, two great kids and she owns a small but growing business of her own......have stayed in touch over the years and got a call from her the other day..

a few months ago,she and her husband were coming through town on their way to where they were going on vacation...actually they drove quite a bit out of their way to come through here.....she asked if I could meet them for lunch....

.we had a great visit and when it came time to go-she said I've got something for you....she had seen a picture of me and my dog (Blue) sitting beside a center pivot in a dove field that I had posted on facebook back in January when I had to put Blue to sleep..... she presented me with a painting she had done of that picture and said simply..."I owe you more than you know-you stuck with me during a tough time in my life and when I really needed help".....

needless to say, this painting occupies a special place on my wall...and in my heart...
