Yeah, that's just wrong. I left a $100 tip last Christmas at a local restaurant (not the one in the story)...I only eat there every couple of months, or I'd weigh 1000 pounds, and I didn't get to go in before Covid hit....I now hope the waitress got it. Geez!

There's information in the comments section of that link that tells a little more of the story. The credit card company would not process a 2000.00 tip, customer made contact with the restaurant and was informed of this issue and was offered a chance to bring cash or give her a check which he readily accepted but so far he's a no show.
Hate it for the waitress!

I think I might do something like this in the times we have. Recently I’ve given out $20’s to the waitress’s helping me with pick up orders and I always tip the max (not custom) on DoorDash, , but I know others are in need.
Only as long as I know they actually get the tip, unlike this story, what a shame for the waitress

Waitress was treated wrong. The money was left to her and not the restaurant plane and simple. Hopefully the restaurant gives her the full amount.

When COVID first happened we decided to get to go food more than normal to help out local restaurants. Most of our meals were $40-$50 and the first couple of times we just made it $100 even. Then I realized everyone in this country is a piece of [censored] that hates one another so I went back to 20%.

I'll say this, if it was legit I would give it to them but I may make them wait a period of time before paying it out. Lots of scams out there and more than a few restaurants have been suckered into paying really big tip amounts only for it to be a fraudulent charge on a card or for it to be contested later. I wouldn't be to hard on the establishment.
