Planning a trip near Athens in early January. I will be fishing from a kayak. Thinking Lake Athens, Purtis Creek. anything else? which is better. Thoughts Thanks

Don't waste your time on purtis, especially in early January

If you have not been to Athens before I would pass on Athens. If it was me I would go to Cedar Creek and put in at the Caney public boat ramp.

If you have not been to Athens before I would pass on Athens. If it was me I would go to Cedar Creek and put in at the Caney public boat ramp. X2. You will wear them out on Cedar creek.

you might think about some of the city lakes. I hear good things about the one in Canton and the one in Grand Saline but I've never fished them.

I have a tourney there on the 23rd and looking forward to it. Fish the edge of grassline and you’ll do fine. As far as the city lakes mentioned above, Mill Creek, or Canton city lake has some tanks in it. Little 500acre lake would be good in the yak and you would probably have the lake to yourself.
