New to targeting crappie, located in the Waco area.

Have a kayak that currently has a cheap 2d sonar fish finder on it. Would like to upgrade to something with decent SI/DI to locate brushpiles/structure and hopefully see if fish are on them. Mostly fish the rivers/creeks around here, but fish main lake some as well. I think the 7" range would be a good size to have on my yak, but there are so many options... Garmin vs Humminbird... g2 vs g3, etc.

Currently, I am seeing this and am interested: https://www.basspro.com/shop/en/garmin-echomap-uhd-74sv-fish-finderchartplotter-combo
It seems that is discounted because it comes with the older model transducer (GT54) rather than the new GT56 I think?

Not sure if that is comparable with the helix 7 g3 SI, or even the g2 SI?

Would be glad to hear anyone's thoughts/recommendations. Thanks!

I'm not familiar with that Garmin unit If it were me I would snag one of these for my kayak while they are on sale.

That Garmin unit is NOT the old unit. It is the NEW unit with the UHD transducer. This is just their black Friday sale. I would jump on that deal NOW!

That was the way I was leaning. I was too late to order via Bass Pro, but gps store had it for $500, which still seemed like a good deal.

If I get a boat one day (hopefully), it should be compatible with livescope looks like.

Thanks for the help!

I have a UHD 93sv on my Livescope and although it’s newly installed, so far I like it. I bought another for the console but haven’t installed it yet.

I just bought a garmin 5" for my little boat. I don't have SI but the DI is nice and clear. I like it a lot. I'm not recommending it one way or another as I think that will have to be a personal decision. I'm just saying that I don't regret buying it.

man i would cancel that order and spend $100 more for the 93 UHD. you can still find it for $599. check Reeds, or Bass Tank, or BBG Marine. 2 inches is a world of difference. i just got mine a few days ago and have yet to install it.

Yeah that would be a good deal as well. I just didn't want to get something overwhelming for a kayak.

Not one to push, but how far away from you will you mount on the yak? If it's not real close then, I'd lean bigger if it were me, especially if you hope to transfer to a boat some day.

I'd get the 9" over the 7" in a heartbeat! That said don't ever look at a 10 or 12! Or have a 12" and start wondering what a 16" would look like on the bow!!! It's a never ending sickness. You can crappie fish for $30 they said!!!! roflmao

do you have a 16 ? I would love to see one in action.

Some one is going to come up with a way to hook these units up to a 75 inch flat screen smile smile

I went from a Helix7 to a Elite TI2 12. Night and day difference. Don't know if it's just the Real Estate, on the screen, or if the transducer is just that much better. But, I can see fish way better on the Lowrance. My problem with the Helix was, I could never mark fish, but I would be catching them.
