My Wife has a niece that played Soccer at a large high school in Florida, could have played for a big collage in the Southeast but chose not to. Other things she wanted to do and had played her whole life and was Soccered out for lack of better terms. She has now graduated from Collage on an academic scholorship. Out of high school she was 5ft 10 or better and about 170 pounds or more solid as a rock. She could kick the cover off a soccer ball. At Christmas one year I ask her if she could kick field golds, if I recall she said she could kick out a little past 50 yards. She had no desire to try to play as a kicker. Probably need to be able to kick way out past 50 for a big time school.
One of my customers quite a few years back had a daughter that almost made the Olympic US soccer team, played Soccer at OU. If I recall he said they were living in Dallas at the time she was in high school and got to kick a few field goals in high school games.
I bet more and more girls are going to give it a try to kick field goals. It would have to be hard for a girl to play a sport like football but more power to them. Everybody should have a fair chance if they can do it.

Everybody should have a fair chance if they can do it. and there is the point of my whole comment, IF THEY CAN DO IT. If they can, then let's go, bring it and more power to them. But she was a side-show.

Just curious but how many here have actually tried kicking X-points much less field goals. Years ago and I mean years three of us young coaches were waiting for the HS team to come out to practice in the Astrodome for playoffs. No wind, off a tee, and on a perfect surface. Best I could get was 25 yards and that was a hit or miss thing at that. With that in mind how many games are won in the red zone by FG's? Vanderbilt does not have a men's soccer team so he could not go there so he did the best he could. Was it a good move. No. But what other choice did he have if no one else on the team could do it? The only other choice he had was to go for two points on every TD they made. To do that means a lot of time given up in practice for special plays that may or may not work.

I have kicked many Extra points and FG's He didn't get fired because he let her kick. He got fired because he was winless and they are a really really bad football team and have been struggling for several yrs. IMO good on Derek Mason for having the ball's to call the soccer coach of the girls team and see if he had anyone he thought could help out.

It was directed at the couch coaches.

I kicked a 15 yarder with a Nerf football at the Death Star.

never knew there were so many women's rights activists in the OT I’m not really an activist, but I’ve supported the movement since first witnessing bra burnings back when I was an adolescent. To this day, it remains the most epic membership drive activity I’ve ever experienced, from any group, ever.

this appeared in Dawgnation website and looks like some of the Vanderbilt players not too happy about them using a girl kicker...
""n addition to the turmoil created by Mason’s departure, a former Vanderbilt starter and team captain, Bruno Reagan, told a Nashville, Tenn. radio station this week that some key players could also choose not to play (in this weeks game against Georgia) because of unhappiness related to kicker Sarah Fuller being used in last Saturday’s game against Missouri.""
