Went for the first time 6-7 years ago. As an injury prone idiot, I was worried. Wife and I took the ski lessons and I was embarrassed by 3-5 year olds zooming around me like it was nothing. A few times down an actual slope and I got the hang of it and enjoyed it. I’ve done a few blues, one difficult blue by accident. I’m comfortable on easy blues but the one I did by accident was due to my brother in law, who is a much better skier than I am, telling me we should try a blue that was fun and not too difficult. He didn’t notice the sign that said that run closed at a certain time, so when we got off the lift, the easiest run was a blue I wasn’t prepared for and it sucked.

It’s fun and isn’t difficult. It can be dangerous, tiring and you will be sore. But it’s fun. The ski towns I’ve been to are a blast, too.

I enjoyed doing it when I was stationed in Colorado. Might be part of why I have 2 bad knees some 40 years later.

My second job in college was to pay for my ski trips to Ruidoso and Taos. It was there I learned if you carry margarita schnapps in your bota bag, good looking women will actually want to ride the ski lift with you. At 63, the closest I would want to get to a ski slope would be the bar.

I'm 64 , I learned to snowboard 5 years ago, never been on skis. It is a blast.

It’s a blast if you’re young. If older than 45, I’d change my thinking about wanting to try it. Last time I went was three years ago and it will be the last. I’m a good skier, too. Been doing it for 40 years. I fell on a groomed green and ripped a calf muscle to smitherines. Just caught an edge and dumped. Prolly going 30 when I wrecked. I still feel effects from the injury three years later. It was quite embarrassing to have to be carted down the hill in a medical toboggan. Ended up in the Taos Hospital ER for muscle spasms that night and it took over three weeks before I could walk again. So no, don’t do it unless you’re a yute.

I went a couple of times in high school, then a couple in my thirties. Started to go more - 3 - 4 times per year in my 50's and love it. You will be sore, and you WILL fall, but there's nothing like it. Don't get talked into getting over your head. Ski what you can ski. It can be exhilarating, and peaceful all in one. It is expensive, and not for everyone, but I really enjoy it. I've got a season pass from last year (thanks covid) that I never got to use - hope to put in a few days this year.

I've done both skiing and snowmobiling when I lived in CO. Skiing is for the yutes unless you grew up doing it. Snowmobiling is a blast, especially going off the groomed trails.

I skiied a lot with a customer who had a home in Vail Village next to the Vista Bahn quad chair. He had been a jock in his younger days and was a fantastic skier so he pushed me to be better. Even did a SnowCat trip to the back bowls for real deep powder. I was still in my 40s then and it was fun. In my 70s it scares me to death! Some guy could plow into you and the recovery in the hospital would take forever. But it was fun in younger days. Its all about learning to turn and how to stop! lol. They go hand in hand.

Take a lesson or two, pretty humiliating falling getting of chair lift. Had altitude sickness first night at Angel Fire but you will adapt. Went to Steamboat for Christmas at age 60 , only skied one day. Took a wrong turn and went down a black about 80 yards. Stopped, kicked off skis and climbed back up. Had to sit down for 15 minutes to recuperate. Work in a snowmobile trip while your spending money. I enjoyed my trips but I’m all done.

It's a great time. You choose which slopes to go down. Just stay on the kiddie slopes and you will be fine. Yes, muscles that you should have, will be sore since they are not utilized frequently.

And Michael Schumacher. The fastest man in a car takes a slow speed fall with a helmet on and it ends badly.

Wait another 20 years before you try. It's more fun when you're older.
