I used to fish Follets Island near Ssn Luis 20 years ago. Now I'm on Galveston Island. I haven't seen anything like a bait run in the surf, late October and before Thanksgiving. What time of year are the reds running open beach front?

They run the surf year round but right now they are very thick. Small whiting chunks and blue crab have produced easy limits of slot reds and bull reds lately.

I think that I need to quit Jamaica Beach and get on a deeper water gut. I'm not even seeing mullet ot other bait fish when I'm wading out to the first gut. But I have ordered an 11' casting rod. Maybe there's something out in the 3rd or 4th gut which I hope to hit with the longer rod.
