This is an activity I’ve always wanted to check out, have never done, but has been on my bucket list for 20 - 30 years.

Is it:
1) Enjoyable and something I need to experience?
Or
2) All hype, mostly a drag and should be erased from my bucket list?

Just get ready to be extremely sore, mostly your legs. I’ve been skiing but not something I’d enjoy doing all the time for vacations.

Skiing is very cool, if you enjoy that sort of thing. I would say you should try it at least once. Although it's not nearly as much fun until you learn to do it well.

Sonny Bono and Michael Kennedy proved if you hit a tree skiing, it doesn't matter if you are Republican or Democrat, you most likely will not survive.

It’s going to be a tough age to learn in my opinion. But, it’s pretty darned cool. That view from the top of the mountains is awesome.

I would like to try Snowmobiling though....

There is a lot of truth to this. You will see these guys that are really, really good and it’s almost effortless. I can get down the mountain pretty well, but, I am fighting that mountain the whole way down. I can’t hardly walk after a day of combat skiing.

Grew up skiing. Mid-50s now and in decent shape. Go every couple of year. I can only do it for a couple of days. Went earlier this year before COVID and fell one time - and I was just stopping to wait on someone and ran my ski over my pole and toppled sideways. I can tell you that hurts a LOT more than it used to. It's super enjoyable, but if you've never done it, and you're not young, you'll have a lot of pain getting there would be my guess.

Really enjoyed learning and skiing the several times I went.

When I was a young traveling salesman, I told my boss that my wife and I were going snow skiing for a week. He asked me if I could drive a car and makes sales calls with a full leg cast. We went to the beach.

In my late 20’s and through my 30’s, I was fortunate enough to ski at Ski Apache, Taos, Angle Fire, Red River, Wolf Creek (my favorite), Purgatory, and Winter Park. Now that I’m 49, I haven’t been in 10 years or so. The cost alone got to a point it wasn’t fun anymore, but being a big ol’fat boy didn’t help one bit. It’s a blast, but it’s a workout for sure. My skiing days are over, but you see older skiers all the time. If you’re in good shape and can handle the elevation and the falling and the getting back up, and the falling, and the getting back up, all while at elevations of 9000 to whatever height your mountain of choice is, then get after it!!!!

If you are in good shape and under 45yo, I'd say grab your baseball helmet and head to the slopes.
Very enjoyable. Beginners should stay on the green slopes.

Best time to go is in early March when it starts to warm up some. Can have beautiful sunny days where you don't have to wear a ridiculous amount of layers.

If you are not in shape, I'd give yourself three months of basic yoga/stretching and cardio before you go.

Best snow is in Utah; light/dry fluffy snow.
Best somewhat close snow is Wolf Creek in southern Colorado

Some years New Mexico gets decent snow. I highly recommend Pajarito in Los Alamos (10 hour drive from metromess). Very few people know about it, and it's never crowded/also a bargain compared to other ski areas.
However, many years, New Mexico gets a lack of snow or icy, slick snow; very challenging for beginners.

I used to go a couple times a year. The only chances I take at falling these days are due to intoxication.

I have never been and honestly have zero desire to. I usually try to avoid “fun” activities that could result in serious injury

Lived in Switzerland in my late 20s and enjoyed some beautiful skiing at Davos, St. Moritz and other resorts. 63 now and no interest in plummeting down the mountain again. It was exhausting and painful when I was a yute!
