YEP. Cheaters, thieves, and general scumbags aren't going to pay any attention to anything. Signage usually only effects the honest folks.

I put in at Oak Thicket. They've done a lot of work over there and keep it clean and the attendants stay pretty visible. Those netters have really helped me work on my offshore game. Some days beating the bank isn't an option.

I forgot to mention one of the places we were anchored looking for catfish was by the jetty in front of the plant. I hooked a brand new cast net by the rope. I haven’t measured it but I know it’s over the legal circumference. I figured someone must have had to dump it to keep from getting caught. Especially after reading this thread. Got me some weight making material once I cut the bottom out. People like this makes it hard on a guy that just wants to catch a few shad for cat fishing.

Go online and search for Tilapia for sale and you will see why they are out there. They are all over Facebook and other online sites. I had no idea until one of my guys showed me. It is a treat for the hispanics and they cast net to eat but mostly sell. They don't care about any rules/regulations.

That figures. But let one of us get caught without a throw cushion.

I have been fishing Fayette county for more than twenty years and this little lake can't take the pressure of the current cast netters. I have seen laundry baskets full of fish being cleaned at the boat ramp, when i was leaving I stopped by the office to report what I saw and they told me that the law enforcment can't send an officer everytime someone is seen breaking the law. I remember when we would be checked once, twice even three times a day fishing in a tournament. My question is how can they not afford to send law enforcement there now? The cast netters are pretty clever, I've been watching them, they catch a few fish and put them in colapseable fish baskets along the shore line, that way if they get caught they don't have any fish or very few, they go back and pick up the baskets when the coast is clear. I belive it was back in Feburary when three (of five) of them drown, we were having a torunament and several of us noticed their boat was only two to three inches above the water. Later that evenig we heard of the drowing. I know less and less law abiding fishermen will be going to Fayette. I have been seeing more law enforcemet lately, maybe they will get a grip on the abuse. Fayette is a great little lake!!

Haha. You are assuming everyone can read English or Spanish.

We put music CD's on the fence post to keep hawks away from our chickens. They apparently don't like the reflection. Wonder if you place some on your vehicle if it will also keep the buzzards away.

I certainly understand your anger with the buzzards but what are they going to do? They are a federally protected animal. I have heard people say that "cannons" should be installed to scare them off. The vultures would go away for awhile but will return when they become accustomed to the sound. Scaring vultures also makes them vomit which just entices them to come back. BTW - there are federally mandated vulture kills but good luck trying to get one at FCL.[/quote]

Totally joking about the boycott, just trying to have the lake to myself! banana

The cast netting for tilapia is not illegal. In fact, I've read that tilapia are not helpful to bass fisheries due to their impact to the ecosystem. There are regulations that need to be followed and enforced however. The problem is directly related to any slot bass being taken out when caught by cast netters and indirectly related to the disturbance of spawning flats/beds. I also think you are required to remove intestines of them before you leave the lake area.

"Tilapia are a warm-water tropical species not native to Texas and are actually on the state’s prohibited species list. Therefore, there is no minimum size or bag limit for tilapia in Texas. However, this also means it is unlawful to transport or possess the fish alive, and the fish are required to be partially cleaned before leaving..."

LCRA will not have anything to do with a fish cleaning station. We tried to get them to place one at each park, but absolutely no! They don't want to deal with disposal of the remains.
