I couldn't wait that long and never boated one over 8. Sometimes you gotta sit still longer than you want.

David, I'm having a hard time believing your story. You're going to have to send me the GPS co-ordinates for said hump. Of course I'll also need a pack of those MPack Shad!!

One year back before I thought I knew something lol we found a cove that was packed with 5+lb fish. We literally stumbled on it and didnt really even know what we had found until a few years later and figuring more out about how fish move and stuff. The place was full of lily pads and grass, just really awesome looking place. We fished it many times and the fish would miss your bait a lot, frogs, rage shads, stuff like that. We finally figured out if you would just throw a spro out there and let it sit for a while, like 30 seconds or so they would crush it. To bad we figured it out as the fish were moving out so it didnt last. If I knew back then what I know now I would have made some money off that area. What's crazy is since then I dont wait or let a bait sit, and i know i should

Most of the time I pause it for about 3 minutes - while I pick out a backlash!

Thats usually what happens to cause that light bulb to come on.

Kinda what I thought-I do go to deeper running jerks in the winter. I guess it depends on you definition of cold water-here in CO I
fish mostly low 40's to high 30's water from Dec thru early March. Which is why I come down to TX. smile

I gotta laugh at some of those videos of guys talking about fishing cold water and they're wearing a T shirt and shorts.

If I know the bait is sitting over the top of a good tree, brush pile, or next to a big rock in 40-45 degree water I'll let it sit for 10-15 seconds between twitches.

Even in 40 degree water, I don't usually pause for more than 10 seconds, and thats only if its in a sweet spot. Sometimes a faster retrieve creates a sense of urgency. When the bite is really tough and the water clarity is good, I've had more success with speeding up rather than slowing down.

Even in really cold waters up north, KVD fishes a jerkbait faster than a lot of guys do in the summer.

Interested in what others do.

I have difficulty also waiting 10-15 seconds but I only do that when the water temp is near 40 degrees or if the fish want it sitting still.
