The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said GM must recall 5.9 million 2007-2014 model year trucks and SUVs because the inflators "are at risk of the same type of explosion after long-term exposure to high heat and humidity as other recalled Takata inflators."

The recall includes some Cadillac Escalade, Chevrolet Silverado, Chevrolet Suburban, Chevrolet Tahoe, GMC Sierra and GMC Yukon vehicles built over an eight-year period.

We have a 2012 Silverado that has been flawless other than O2 sensor replacement that I did myself. I had an F150 that we were not as lucky with. But who knows.......

I have the "new" body style 2007 GMC Sierra 1500. 175K on it. My only issues are little electronic bugs . . . electric window switches, tire inflation sensors, etc. Motor and drive train have been flawless.

I have a 2006 Envoy. HATE THE THING! Only reason I have it is an idiot was texting and driving and totaled my 2002 Ranger and the insurance check made the Envoy a straight across deal. In a year or two I will trade it off and be done with GM products once again.

I entered the VIN # on our 2012 Silverado 1500 on the GM website and it says NOT AFFECTED. It looks as if rhe 2500 and 3500 are the big part of the Takata Recall- and older year models. That was as of today the 24th. I will check it again in a day or two.

When Chevy introduced those cheesey front wheel drive Impalas ((cheesiest vehicle they ever made) our department switched to Chargers for patrol and Dodge pickups for the detectives. Disaster! Our vehicle maintenance budget was spent before the six month mark. Beaucoup issues and no dealer or factory support. A neighboring PD had the same result. We switched to Ford, and bought a bunch of EcoBoost Exploders. Every one of them was in the shop, over and over. Most unreliable engine Ford ever produced. Now we’re using Tahoes, for the last two years. Much less trouble and expense than the others. And the Chevys have significantly better brakes and handling than the Fords.

We have had very similar experiences.

I've had good luck overall with vehicles. Owned mostly chevy until recently with two ram pickups, and none of them gave me much trouble. Only one that gave us trouble was the one ford we owned, which was awful. I'm back in a chevy 2500 now with the duramax, and it's by far the nicest truck i've ever owned. I plan to delete when my powertrain warranty is up and keep it 15-20 years.

Just which one do or would you own. The Takata inflators have already been recalled in Toyota, Ford, Dodge, Ram, Jeep, Chrysler, Nissan and now GM.
