Hi TFF!

I'm back once again to ask the helpful folks of TFF another question. Last time I received a lot of good information regarding soft plastics and lures to use from the bank. Since then, I've had some moderate success with lures, but now I'm stuck on yet another type of fishing. I've seen videos of people jig fishing for several things, usually Crappie and Sunfish, but sometimes things like White Bass too. I can't seem to get as much as a nibble when I fish with jigs. I've tried all kinds of jigs from maribou runners, curly tail grubs, shadpoles, the list goes on. I don't think I'm working the jigs correctly, but I don't know if I can from the bank. I know that you're supposed to "jig" or raise up the pole tip a few times and let the jig fall. I also know that most of the time, the bite is on the fall, but then I see people fish with floats and then I wonder if those require any type of "jigging" motion.

I fish mainly Lake Grapevine, and sometimes I'll test out new lures on Lake Arlington, but outside of those two lakes, I don't really have much experience fishing anywhere else. Is there a type of location I should be looking for when fishing with jigs? Does it matter that I'm on the bank? Also, how should I be working a jig?

On a side note, just because I was lazy the other day, I put a small piece of cut shad on a jig head and tossed it into the lake while I was packing up and ready to go. Almost immediately, a decent-sized Blue Catfish ran with it. I tried fishing again with octopus hooks, but no luck. Do catfish bite on jig heads more often?

Try using a slip bobber. When you pull up, the jig will rise. Then let it drop back at a depth determined by your bobber stop. It works, it really does.

Fish Katie woods on grapevine, with a one inch white grub or white maribou on a 1/16 to 1/8 oz. mostly white bass and spots in that area, don’t forget to fish the sides and base on the ramp

When fishing with a slip bobber, how far up should I put the bobber stop? Should I even put a bobber stop on it?

I've always wanted to try fishing Katie Woods, but whenever I go, it's usually crowded, or the parking spots are closed off. I'll try going there early in the morning on a weekday though, so thanks for the advice!

Use a cigar shaped bobber. Take a guess, toss it out, if the bobber lies on its side; shorten the bobber stopper about 6" at a time until the bobber sits upright. Then experiment until you start getting bit.

He knows what he is talking about. I fish with this guy and he is the "Master of the Slip Float" !
