So, I was at the Lewisville fishing barge two weekends ago, Saturday specifically. Arrived around 9:30PM - upon arrival a gentlemen was blowing up an air mattress in the parking lot; using an air pump from what I assumed was his, late-model, SUV. For anyone who has been through the park at night, this didn't register on my radar. Around 10:30PM, said man with air mattress has brought the air mattress down to the bank of the lake, and the next thing I know, off he goes - no life vest (at least not on) no lights, just an air mattress, cooler, and clearly a trolling motor (judging by the speed and sound) of the air mattress.

Text my buddy who is meeting me that someone just set sail on a mattress and to hurry up to catch it.....Buddy shows up- mattress is gone.... 2 hours later- now its midnight, the air mattress and its occupant has come back to the fishing barge - my buddy tells me " i gotta ask the guy if he caught anything" ( we only had 1 so far) - so he runs out the barge to meet the guy on the shore - to ask him how he did fishing- guy looks straight at my buddy- says " wasn't fishing" - buddy also confirms that he had no poles.....only had the air mattress, a very large cooler, a battery and a trolling motor.....buddy said "oh ok" and came back to barge....

I've told this to some other guys on the TFF in person- and we thought it was at least funny - if not a real life dexter...... anyone encounter this guy before?

You're positive it was an air mattress and not some type of inflatable boat or something? How does it even carry all that?

Huh. I live close to the barge and sometimes include it on my walks. Guess I don't go out late enough to see the really interesting stuff anymore.

Air mattress and a trolling motor??? How do you mount the TM so you can operate it? To the cooler? Can you give more details of the SUV? I think I pulled next to the SUV 2 Saturdays ago in North Dallas area.

1) I got a good look at the SUV, but, at the time he was blowing up his air mattress in the parking lot, I didn't think much about the incident. With that said, I am going to say it was a late 90's (1999?) early 2000's (2003 max) mercury mountaineer or ford explorer. Large, older, SUV, I don't remember anything else about it. Individual was white, 30's or 40's maybe, slender. ( Aren't all serial killers?!?!)

2) Yes, 100% positive it was an air mattress - that much is about the only thing I am positive about. That and he had a cooler, and a trolling motor. I saw him blowing up the air mattress with an air pump (12v type that plugs into your cig. lighter) the parking lot outside of the barge.

3) It was a fairly large blow up mattress, twin at the very least, if not queen. I am fairly handy - so, if I had to re-create his "boat" - I could mount a trolling motor to a cooler- although it would not be able to function as a cooler, per say, as I'd put holes in it - and to be fair- I am not sure if his "cooler" was a functional cooler. Battery, and probably some additional "weight" inside the cooler depending on weight of original cooler - act as counter balance- battery may be heavy enough - pressure treated 2x4 lag bolted on the side and clamp it on - I am not saying that's what he did - but I can at least think of one way it would be possibe.....and... i Know its possible because I saw it with my own eyes.... I am going to text my buddy who was with me- he actually ran up to him upon his return (to ask if he caught anything) so he got a much closer look to the entire thing assembled.... I only was close to him blowing up his "Boat"

4) He did multiple trips from his vehicle (barge parking lot) to the lake.... He parked very close to the barge. So its a very short walk to the water.....100 feet max? Maybe less.

He made multible trips from his vehicle to the water's edge. I assume he installed the battery once his air mattress was floating - and hand carried the battery, and other "needed" items down....

Sober 3+ years.....Now 4 years ago, this would have been a much different story as I would have asked to join him ---- and if he refused probably attempted to pirate his air mattress.

Couple off things that cause me to question-

“Mountaineer and Explorer” - I would not categorize these as a “large” SUV. Suburban, Expedition, even a Tahoe would be large SUVs.

“fairly large blow up mattress, twin at the very least”. Huh? Do they make them any smaller than a twin?

So confoozed

the new ones are smaller- the older ones were bigger...much....and made of steel... and as somene who drives a tahoe- i believe the "proper" term is "full size" for the examples you listed....considering a rav4 is considered a SUV- I think my description is fine....

im not an expert in air matress sizes ---- if thats the only part of the story that confuses you- you're better off than me.
