I am looking at getting my first kayak. I want a pedal drive. And I don’t want to spend over $2000. I am 6 foot two 270 pounds. Looking for recommendations. I have an F150 so can I just throw it in the back of the truck. What else will I need that I’m not thinking of that I will also need.

PB between 8-9 pounds.

A big sack of money for the seven GoPros and the 16” chartplotter you will be mounting on it.

You're a big guy. You need a kayak designed to carry a big guy and all your gear. Would be very careful about buying any new pedal drive on that budget. Look at some of the high end used pedal drives. The seating area is most important for a guy of your weight and the more expensive pedal drives have the best and sturdiest seats. I personally wouldn't consider anything under 14 ft. for your size.

PS... good luck on lifting it into and out of the back of your truck. roflmao

A good rule of angling philosophy is not to interfere with another fisherman's ways of being happy, unless you want to be hated.

I agree with Iconn... You need a big kayak.

I have a 14' Pro Angler and haul it in the back of my F150. This is only possible with a T-Bone bed extender ($200) and Boonedox Landing Gear ($300). You can use a less expensive bed extender and cart system, but even the less expensive options will cut pretty deep into your budget.

Given your size, I would stay away from the cheaper (smaller and less stable) models. I would focus on finding a good used Hobie Pro Angler or Jackson Big Rig. Old Town is another good brand, but I don't think that they make a 14' pedal?

If you fish a lot of grassy or vegetation lakes, the Hobie mirage drive performs much better than the prop drive options

If you fish a lot of open water lakes with scattered stumps, I’d get one of the pedal kayaks with the drive that retracts when you hit it. Non retractable Hobie mirage drives can get severely damaged hitting stumps (I know the newer higher end Hobie mirage drives retract/give way)

Yep, but once you buy a boat, motor, electronics, maintenance, etc, you wish you had a kayak.

About as good as you'll find for used if everything in as good a condition as seller states.

OP as mentioned your options are limited. I recommend saving until you can buy what you really need which is a Hobie Pro Angler 12 or 14 or something with similar weight capacity and seat capacity. All of the other kayaks mentioned above don't have the seat capacity you need.

As far as the boat reference I hear people make this reference a lot. Maintenance on a kayak is minimal compared to maintenance on a boat. With a boat you have payments, insurance, gas, etc. Yes kayak accessories are expensive. Paying $40 for a rod holder is crazy. But compared to all the stuff you need on a boat its pennies. I can assure you a kayak is MUCH cheaper than owning a boat.

You get out of it what you put into it!

I am looking to sell my Jackson Big Rig. It's rigged out and more than enough for even me to stand on (6'2'' 315lbs) but that's more of a sea legs thing than the kayak.

That said, if you flip a big rig you were trying to flip it lol

Let me know if you're interested and I will send pics and whatnot.

You left of the end of that sentence. add... and all the problems that come with a power boat.

Once I get my trailer situation squared away so I can haul both of them, you are welcome to give my other PA14 360 a test drive. I promise you that you will save your money for one after you try one fishing.
