I'm not finding much info on carp/buff fishing at Toledo Bend but I ran across a site that said there are 50# carp (commons or grassers?) and 80# buffs swimming around shocked

I don't know if everyone is so caught up with bass fishing the lake that the rough fish are overlooked or if this is some sort of secret carp/buff lake no one wants to talk about. If it's the ladder and you have intel you're willing to share (publicly or by PM) I'd be much appreciative. grin

Given the size of the fish - I'm considering a 3-4 day camping trip intel or not. fish

We were really hoping for a few of the 50# carp and 80# buffs I had heard about; but unfortunately we ended up with nothing but dinks ranging from low 20's to a 51# buff. I did manage a 4# largemouth on about 10 casts with a 6" swimbait on day 1 while the cubes put in work. Never picked up the swimbait rod again as we stayed fairly busy with the target species. Here's a few of the pics from the trip.

Nice report and some great pics. This may be the first report that I have seen from Toledo Bend. There has got to be some giants in that lake. Looks like you guys had a great spot for camping and fishing.

Thanks Curt. Yes, I couldn't find any reports here and very few at all in cyberspace specifically targeting rough fish. Between the snags, steep drop offs, limited campgrounds with shoreline access, and propensity for the weather (specifically wind) to get nasty pretty quickly, I assume it discourages most weekend anglers from spending more than a day at time out there. Definitely not the easiest venue, but one I look forward to taking another crack at. Thanks, Brine

Lake Athens has the world record smallmouth buffalo at 82 pounds. That was several years ago. With more anglers than ever fishing for carp and buffalo, I think that it is only a matter of time before that record is broken. Lakes like Toledo Bend, Fork, Sam Rayburn, and those on the Colorado River chain all have the potential for giants.

Catch and release. The dream - to catch one of every species of Freshwater fish in our great state! If only I can resist Carp...

Interesting. Never heard of Lake Athens, but looking on the map, it's almost identical in distance from me. Looks like a whole lot less water than Toledo Bend too! I'd love to see a pic of the one that breaks the record!

Thanks All for the comments.
