I read today that the NFL was going to assemble an “all black” officiating crew. This is the first time in history that this has happened. I know a lot of you couldn’t care less about the NFL, I as well, but this seems like segregation flipped the other way. No one even pays attention to the officials until they talk. The black community thinks this is great but I feel like it degrades them even more. Thoughts?

If they set out to assemble an all black crew just to make one, I think that’s wrong. If they just assembled a crew and it happens to be all black officials, then I have no problem with it.

I look forward to the day when we are just people. Not some form of hyphenated people whose distinction is aimed at dividing us.

The story says 5 of them work together on a regular basis. It also says they’re putting them together this year based on geographic location. So my assumption is that this is a coincidence, not something the NFL set out to do just to do it. No problem here.

lol my bad it just don’t sit well . If it had happened to end up being All One color by chance then who cares but to purposely pick colors ? Why ? Why the hell would you do that ? You already know what would happen if some one purposely picked just whites and said no one else could be on there you might as well put pointy hats on them and have em dancing around burning crosses for god sakes !

If this is the case then so be it. But there is still a problem with an NFL executive making the statement quoted in the article.

“This historic Week 11 crew is a testament to the countless and immeasurable contributions of Black officials to the game, their exemplary performance, and to the power of inclusion that is the hallmark of this great game,” said Troy Vincent, NFL executive vice president of football operations.

This is just like Affirmative Action. It a terribly degrading thing to appoint a person to a position simply because they are black.

Seems incredibly exploitive to me.
