Since I never have much success in netting Shad, going to try some skipjack I ordered from Ayers and sons this weekend. I ordered half a case of 12 inchers. I think it's enough to last through most of the rest of Fall and part of the Winter....LOL. About 25-30 lbs. Gonna find out how they like non native bait.

I thought of doing the same thing. You could also use chicken breasts I use chicken breast all the time. Wanted to try something different, and see how it worked. I do have good luck with Jello Chicken.

For anyone who ever wondered, yes it works here too. Although, I never found any big fish, I caught 14 1 to 2 lb blues and one 9.5 lb blue on it. It isn't any less mushy though, than shad. But it's a LOT more oily than shad, and still smells fishy when it's been in the water a good while. It will create a slick, the instant it touches the water. I still can't believe those little blues were able to inhale those huge chunks I had out.
Oh, and every fish I caught looked pregnant, they were all gorging on food.

Thanks for the update Z28. Sounds like you had a good day!
Most of what I caught today were fat also! Winter feed is on.
Take care
