Anyone had a good experience with DFW area boat mechanic on trim system replacement involving Mercury outboard over 10 years old?

Bought the boat over a year ago and it would trim up and then slowly bleed back down. That wasn't really a problem but the last 2 times out the boat would not trim up at all. Had a local mechanic look at it and he said it was a bad trim relay. He actually had it working again within 5 minutes but suggested replacing the relays which were presumably as old as the motor (2006).

He said he replaced the up relay (and the down and starter relay). Took boat out this past weekend. Worked fine first 3-4 hours on the lake but again it would not trim up at all.

Do not want to have to manually lift that motor again to get it home from the lake.

It's my understanding that Mercury dealers are the only ones who typically replace the Mercury trim systems but I've learned that some of them only do service work if you bought the boat from them.

Thanks in advance for any recommendations on a trustworthy shop who can handle this repair.

Not sure where you heard that. I have a buddy that had his own shop but has retired. He replaced the pump and motor on and older Mercury I had. I have done one myself. If just the motor it is not difficult.

Lot's of good mechanics that work on those engines. And NO it doesn't have to be an authorized service center to do the work.
i know of many good mechanics that used to work at Dealerships and went off on their own.. good guys. Like Matt Martin.

i'm a mercury dealer myself.. I could care less where you bought the boat and motor from.. if it's optimax and newer ... i'll work on it.
