Hey Everyone,

New guy to the forum here. I post on another forum as well but this one seemed pretty neat too. I fish almost exclusively the Matagorda surf with some occasional PINS trips thrown in there. I will start posting my reports here as well. Here are just a few fish pics from this year.

Most of the rays I catch become shark bait, the bigger ones like pictured above get released. I have actually tried cooking them before because many people say they taste like scallops but that is a pure myth. They are edible but taste nothing like scallops lol.

Some eateries claim to serve scallops when the stuff is actually little rays. About 20 yrs ago during a fishing tournament on the Tx City Dike, one of our club members was cajun. The wings have a flat rubbery tissue that runs from the spine to the tip of the wing. Imagine a sandwich and the tissue being the meat!! It has to come out. He then had a small 1 1/2" dia. metal pipe. placed it one the meat, hit it with a mallet and punched out the "little balls". With is own cajun made batter he then deep fried them. Pretty good. A lot of people there didn't know what they were eating and said it was very tasty. FAKE SCALLOPS!!
