Pro Crappie Trail on Lake Fork was a tough one. It’s always us against the lake and she wasn’t making it easy for any teams!
Prefishing was a blast and the most consistent big fish pattern was deep on wood off channels. As it should be most if not all teams were fishing this pattern and it for sure would be a shoot out!
Today as the tournament started Mother Nature put a monkey wrench in everyone’s plan. The wind was blowing 20+ with 30 mph gusts. Although my Skeeter ZXR21 and 112 Ultrex didn’t have a problem keeping us on fish we could not keep our jigs from bouncing up and down at least 2’. This made it impossible for us to get bit.
At 9am we went to a secondary plan. I knew an area that was definitely holding 1.5 to 1.8# fish. If we could stumble on a few kickers we’d be in the hunt so we trailered and relaunched in another area.
This area was a flat near a secondary creek channel and we quickly had our seven in the boat to start culling. These crappie were holding near the bottom. Later we started culling and biggest aggressive fish were actually 6 to 10’ down ready to stomp a bait!
Prefishing was an absolute blast fishing the BoneHead Tackle 3” Slim Sticks and Brush Gliders. A 1/4 BX Jig Head got down to them quick which is key! 12’ BoneHead Carbon Fiber Rod, BH80 Reel and Hi Vis 12# Braid flipped them in the boat!
Congrats to the winners and everyone that fished PCT on Fork today! It takes a heck of an angler to sign up, support the sport and fish hard knowing in advance there would be winds like that! You all rock!
Heck of a trail and great way to treat the anglers! Pro Crappie Trail is certainly a tournament trail you’ll all want to support! Great job Jerry, Dan and crew! 🎣🐟🇺🇸
14.21# best 7 crappie for a second place finish against some of the best of the best is ok with me and Richie. Had a blast today Richie Rich!
