I just posted about fishing Lake Lavon and drifting for catfish. I have been fishing Lavon Lake for 57 years, so that says that I’m an old coot. My son fishes with me, has been since he was 5 years old and he will be 50 soon. We love to fish, any chance we get we head to the lake to fish. We drift in the spring and summer and stink bait fish (chum) around trees in the late fall and winter. I don’t like to set out trout lines or jug lines to catch catfish. Rod and reel is the best way to catch fish. We fish for crappie every now and then, but there is nothing better than a catfish fillet seasoned with your favorites and deep fried. Congratulations on raising a son to be your fishing buddy. We as fathers take our sons fishing and hunting when they are young with the hopes that when we are “old coots” they will take us fishing and hunting. Consider yourself lucky it don’t always work out that way.

How come y’all switch to stink bait and chum in the winter? No offense but you boys got it backwards. Summer is dinkfest stinkfest. Winter time is for drifting toads. It’s time to put the stink bait down and get the biggest baits you can find on a 8/0 or 10/0 circle hook. Lavon is one of the best big fish lakes in the state...
