Blue River Fishing Oklahoma | Trout Season FYI

Here is a video to mark the start of the Oklahoma Trout Stocking Season - specifically, the Blue River which was stocked today with Rainbow Trout. Getting some questions from folks, so here is some info to keep at the ready this season!

DIY Wooden Trout Net | Do Over Anyone?

Had some issues with the DIY Wooden Trout Net that I made several seasons back. In colder weather the lacing tended to become stiff and did not open up well. Sure enough the trout were able to jump out of the net and back into the water.

Decided to order a net from Amazon. Net arrived yesterday, and in short order and a few zip ties later, I have a net that will definitely hold a fish or two! Do check out the video, added pictures at the end of the "Do Over" variation of the original net. Plus added a snippet of the video from the original net.

Fun time on the Blue River in Oklahoma fishing for Rainbow Trout. Plan was to catch dinner. Struck out in the morning; decided to head to the catch and release section for some fly fishing fun. Editing the video still but here is a snippet to update viewers.

Another Winter trout stocking season is fast approaching! Like in past seasons, yours truly modified the schedule posted by TPWD to sort by Stocking Date and the count of trout stockings planned for a location and its estimated trout to be stocked.

Makes for ease of reference by allowing Readers to quickly see when the next trout stocking is planned. As changes are unexpected for various reasons like weather, do check for updates, changes, and corrections at TPWD’s website – 2020-2021 Trout Stocking Schedule.

Blue River Oklahoma | Fishing the Catch and Release Section!

Fished the Blue River in Oklahoma last Saturday - November 7. Plan was to fish the Hughes Crossing area for trout to make another catch and cook. Struck out though. That said, made the run North of HWY 7 and fished the Catch and Release Section. After a wrong turn or two, made it to the area and had a fun time catching, losing, and landing a trout or two.

Did see an armadillo on the walk back to the parking area, and stopped by the Fly Library to add a fishing fly or two to collection. Overall, a great time on the Blue River!

No fishing today, but did get some fishing things done. Picked up some AIr Lock Strike Indicators that included extra nuts. Even though the Air Locks were the larger size, they fit the smaller size Air Lock which is a good thing as I have one that needed the nut! Good to go now... ready for another round on the Blue River.

Picked the Air Locks at Scheels in the Colony. Also, bought GRHEN and Rainbow Warrior Fishing Flies.. great prices 1.19 I think!

Did mention the TPWD's Trout Stocking Schedule is posted. And, as in the past... posted a chronological version on our website - StockerTroutFishing.com ...do check it out!

Also, tied more fishing flies using Jig Head Flies I ordered on eBay... much cheaper price.  Used them for Rubber Legged Near Deere, Mega Worms, and Mop Flies.

Fished the Blue River today. Only two trout this round. Did see others do well. Working on editing the video of the trip. Due check back! For now, a quick update.

Blue River Oklahoma Fishing | Two Trout This Round

Fished the Blue River in Oklahoma this past Sunday for a chance at trout for dinner. Fishing was tough for yours truly. Managed a Longear Perch, and two Rainbow Trout.

Used the 6wt TFO Fly Rod and caught the Perch on a Pink Near Deere with Rubber Legs, one Trout on a White Megaworm, and the other Trout on a Tandem Rigged White Megaworm with trailing PMC Emerger.

Was hoping for a limit of trout to cook blackened fish style using a recipe from @30milesOut. Ended up adding two Catfish to the two Trout to make dinner... tasty, tasty.

Quick update from this morning's run to Denison Dam. Limited out on small stripers. Plan was to fish with the Switch Rod and Clouser Minnows for Striped Bass on the Texas side. Change of plans, fished the Oklahoma side and had fun catching them using a float and fly aka float and jig rig... tipped with shad for bait! Cool thing was the stripers were chasing and striking the Bennet's Lunch pattern after the shad came off, that is the stripers ate it. Do stay tuned; will get a full video out!
