Not sure if everyone knows about this but trout season is about to start. I used to take friends with kids every year to show them how to fish as we could almost always catch a few fish. This year I decided to do a series of videos to share to show beginners how to fish and specifically to catch these trout. They are usually smaller fish 6-12 inches but they are plentiful and with a 5 fish limit you can usually catch a few for dinner. I will do a series of videos: Rod selection Using Power Bait Using artificial lures Teaching kids to cast and reel Fishing at some of the local lakes Just sharing this to promote fishing so check them out if you are interested and hit me up if you have any questions... https://youtu.be/lLybL3cEY-wThe website is here: https://tpwd.texas.gov/fishboat/fish/management/stocking/trout_stocking.phtml The trout stocking schedule for the 2020-2021 season will be posted here in mid-November. Each winter from December through early March, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department stocks rainbow trout in more than 100 locations across Texas. The hatchery-reared trout are 9 to 12 inches long and create a put-and-take fishery: we expect that most will be caught within a few weeks after being stocked. In spring and summer, most Texas waters are too warm to provide suitable habitat for rainbow trout.

I wonder if TPWD will be posting the specific dates that trout get stocked, and if the stocking schedule will be adjusted this year. With the catfish stocking, TPWD declined to post the specific dates of stocking due to the pandemic; the goal was to make everyone not show up on the same days.
With the trout stocking, people near me are often fishing quite close to each other. One pond in particular has a pier where people have been shoulder to shoulder.

With the trout stocking, people near me are often fishing quite close to each other. One pond in particular has a pier where people have been shoulder to shoulder. I recommend going a couple of days after the stocking event. It gets way less crowded and there are still plenty of fish until the cormorants show up...

now to sort my schedule for the next 3-4 months This may help... I sort the stockings into a a schedule based on stocking date. The dates may change during the season but it's a little easier to sort through. "Another Winter trout stocking season is fast approaching! Like in past seasons, yours truly modified the schedule posted by TPWD to sort by Stocking Date and the count of trout stockings planned for a location and its estimated trout to be stocked. Makes for ease of reference by allowing Readers to quickly see when the next trout stocking is planned. As changes are unexpected for various reasons like weather, do check for updates, changes, and corrections at TPWD’s website – 2020-2021 Trout Stocking Schedule. Modified PDF Schedule."

Stockings days will be a circus for sure. There will a lot of anglers there who do not have a clue how to fish.

I go for the stocked trout because its a blast to take the kids (and I like trout in general). I agree there will probably be a ton of people there on stocking days.
That said last year I gave away as good bit of my terminal gear and disposable bait (mousetails/dough/corn) to people who had no clue how to fish but wanted to learn - those are people that despite the crowding are worth helping. They would see me catching and wanted to learn how so would come over and ask. Probably one of the better moments of fishing is when you show someone how to fish and why (and how to do it courteously). Then get to watch them do it and get a fish (sometimes their first fish).

I have always used red salmon eggs and sweet corn and had good luck. Last year I bought my first gold super duper and it worked great. If I only take three tools to a pond its these 3.

I met two of my current fishing buddies that way. One was just fishing next to me and caught plenty of fish, the other was watching us and not catching anything so he came over and asked what we were doing. I showed him and gave him some power bait and salmon egg hooks and we have been fishing together ever since. Now we chase striper in Texoma...

FYI - picked this up from the bluegill forum - but they have updated the listings with changes. So you may want to recheck to confirm dates and numbers. I'm in flower mound... so the fact they they changed from 1500 >> 1600 and 350 to 750 is going to be a blast

I finished my last video on what you need to catch these fish! Please take a look and comment if I missed anything! This was really for people that never fish before. It’s how I introduce people to fishing! https://youtu.be/ziFEnNKo1to

Here in Allen trout stocking is less than two weeks away for Bethany Lakes! Hope to breakaway and maybe catch a trout or two as well. In preparation, decided to stop by Bethany Lakes and scout the area... as well as provide more info on Bethany Lakes and the pond that will be stocked. Also, been tinkering with the microphone to use for livestream updates. Audio while onsite and in spotty coverage has been a hit or miss issue. Sometimes it's okay, other times it's not okay. I think I figured out a workable solution. Gave it a try while onsite at Bethany today!

Texas Rainbow Trout Pond Fishing Videos | DFW AreaSince we are at the start of the Texas Rainbow Trout Stocking Season, decided to collate videos from past fishing trips in the DFW area – specifically, ponds stocked in Allen, Frisco, McKinney, Flower Mound, Dallas, and Rowlett as well as a few favorites just north of DFW in Grayson County’s Pottsboro and Sherman! May be of of interest to some planning to fish the stocked ponds this season! Here is the link to the playlist - Texas Rainbow Trout Pond Fishing - Video Playlist, and below is the first video in the series.

No luck here on Mepps or a Kastmaster. I did see an older gentleman using what I believe was a Float N Fly setup, limit out fairly quickly. It was way too windy to get out the fly rod, but I will try again today or tomorrow.

Texas Rainbow Trout Fishing / Live at Bethany Lakes!Impromptu livestream checking out the fishing action at Bethany Lakes. Fun stuff for some Texas Rainbow Trout Fishing. Bite was slow but did see some catching a trout or two. Learned they stocked around 9AM on the West side of the pond. Hope to stop by again later today for a chance at catching one on the GoFish Camera. All for now!

fished bethany from 1 to 230. I didnt see a single fish caught. I mean zero. no schooling, no chasing bait, no surface activity, nothing. that's really unusual at bethany on stocking day. I wonder what's going on?

they def stocked it, cause I went back tonight and I ended up catching one. but it was super slow. I made two trips there today and I think I saw maybe a total of 10 or 15 caught the whole time. in the years past, it was pretty common to catch 30-40 fish on stocking day. maybe the trout are sheltering in place this year, idk.

I was out there this evening from 5pm to dusk and only saw one guy snag one out. There were easily 50 hooks in the water on the side closest to the road (south of the parking lot). I'm a new Texan so this was my first go around and it was pretty disappointing. Hoping for better these next few days!

I counted 62 anglers at Bethany yesterday afternoon. With some using two poles, there was over 100 lines in the water.

They are there... at Bethany. They were striking Silver Super Dupers on a slow retrieve and a stop and go retrieve at dusk yesterday. Had a couple strike and on the line briefly before they threw the hook on me. Mojo was off. Heard someone else limited out on Mouse Tails and Power Bait. I did stay after dark and played with the GoFish Camera. Still gotta work out the rigging to get a good view. But, did see a bass lurking on the bottom. Also, noticed a "squiggling" worm go by and what looked like midges hatching. May need to try fishing San Juan Worms and Zebra Midges to match the hatch.

Stopped by after work at Bethany. Saw some catching a few; I struck out. But, did get the video posted from the GoFish Cam... Texas Rainbow Trout Fishing | GoFish Cam Scouting at Bethany LakesHaving fun GoFish Cam scouting for trout during the Texas Rainbow Trout Fishing stocking season. This round we checked out Bethany Lakes yesterday. Overall, bite was slow but did get strikes on the Super Duper at dusk. Still need to work on the rigging for the GoFish Cam to get better action shots, but was able to see a fish - I think it was a Bass, and then noted lots of "buggy-ness". Looks like the green led light attracts things!

Went to Bethany this afternoon. Didn’t get any trouts. Instead, caught and released a small large-mouth bass.

Texas Rainbow Trout Fishing | Finding the Pattern... Bubble Fly Rig Anyone?Impromptu livestream to recap a quick trip to Bethany Lakes for some Texas Rainbow Trout Fishing - specifically, where we attempt to find the pattern using spincasting gear and ultralight spinning gear. Short on time but did manage to catch one using the Bubble Fly Rig but promptly dropped it back into the water. Check it out as we explain what we did to find the "pattern"!

We fished Bethany Park in Allen last night from 4 to dark. Trout were rising and jumping when. We got there. We fished 2 poles with bobbers and 2 poles with the bottom rig in this video https://youtu.be/lLybL3cEY-wWe ended up with 9 altogether and caught fish with both techniques. The key was getting the bait to the active fish...

I was finally able to put together a video of our trip to Bethany Lakes...I took a break from striper fishing to take my 5 and 8 year old daughters to Bethany Lake Park in Allen to catch trout. We used the 2 hook bottom rig, a slip bobber with a 4' leader and Power Bait to catch them. We fished from 4:15 - 5:15 and caught 9 trout. This video breaks it all down, where we fished from, what rigs we used, what we used for bait and other helpful tips and techniques. If you have never fished before, try these techniques and head to the trout stocking lakes. Collin County will stock Frisco, Prosper and McKinney! https://youtu.be/6LHlDaQW56I

Went to Twin lakes south for trout fishing and saw a Catch&Release sign in the park. Just wonder if it applies to those stocked trouts?

Texas Rainbow Trout Fishing | What Worked This Round - Power Worms Crankie, No Yankie!Made the run to Pottsboro Lake in Grayson County Saturday morning for some Texas Rainbow Trout fishing. Recently stocked with trout, the Team brought fly fishing gear, ultralight spinning gear, and a GoFish Cam to fish the pond. The morning started out with lots of surface activity similar to the trout feeding on a "bug hatch" at our local pond in Allen - Bethany Lakes. In short order, had strikes on the fly using the Generic Black Dry Fly Midge fished with a slow retrieve. Our fishing buddy was getting strikes on PowerBait but once he found the pattern - a Power Worm fished with a slow retrieve or a stop and go retrieve, he was able to limit out in short order. Yours truly soon switched to a Power Worm but kept losing the trout when I would set the hook with the rod... I was yanking the worm out of the trout's mouth. Luckily, after several more misses, I started to hook-up consistently when I kept reeling or cranking the reel to set the hook. The lesson learned today was "crankie, no yankie" when fishing a Power Worm on a slow and/or stop and go retrieve. A review of the @GoFishCam confirmed the trout wanted movement, else tended to ignore the bait/lure. Also, it showed trout can inhale and quickly spit out a lure without getting hooked. Do check out the video and the underwater footage of Saturday morning's trout fishing action at Pottsboro Lake in Pottsboro, Texas!

If the weeds aren't near the surface then I would try spinners or spoons. They are pretty active in this water temp, which seemed to be in the 50's at Bandera. I caught mine yesterday on a spoon that should have been too big for a stocker, but hooked one on the 4th bite.

Do you guys think there would be any left in Boerne lake? It was stocked two weeks ago, but from the size and depth of the lake and considering they planted 1000 I am thinking there might still be several around.

Don't believe they stocked Trout in Boerne Lake. They did stock Cibolo Creek in Boerne City Park with 1000. Chuck (Banker as always) fished it as they poured the trout in and got a limit but it was really hard. The water is pretty muddy and not the best habitat in my opinion. I don't believe they would last very long. But who knows, you won't know unless you go.

Texas Rainbow Trout Fishing | Waterloo Park Pond in DenisonMore Texas Rainbow Trout Fishing in the DFW area. This round takes us to Denison, TX... just north of Dallas. Recently stocked with Rainbow Trout; we try our luck finding the pattern. Waterloo Park Pond is a small pond but can be challenging at times. This trip yours truly limited out using PowerBait Trout Bait; fishing buddy managed three trout - two on PowerBait and one on a Gold Super Duper. Able to get some underwater video of the action, but still need to tinker with the rig to get a more consistent point of view of the action. Waterloo has lots of green stuff on the bottom, and when the trout tend to the bottom, it's tough getting the camera to set right while resting on the bottom as well as avoid clobbering the camera's view. No worries, did get enough to learn... trout wanted PowerBait Trout Bait over Power Worms, Nuggets, and Eggs. And, at least this round, they did not go for corn. Do check out the video. And, do check back, have another video where we fished Denison Dam on the Oklahoma side using shad for bait coupled with the GoFish Cam... lots of small stripers in the footage! PS: Penn Pursuit III Reel on the Berkley Lightning and the Zebco Slingshot Spinning Rod/Reel Combo worked out well fishing for stocked trout!

I took my girls fishing Saturday at Frisco Commons for the trout stocking. We didn't get there until about 4:45 and I didn't have my poles rigged up but we caught 6 and lost 4. The pond should have trout for the next 1-2 weeks (until the cormorant show up). I used a 2 hook rig with #8 salmon egg hooks so the bait floats above the grass. Yellow Powerbait on 6lb line was the ticket. You need to be able to cast by the fountain to catch them. I posted a video on you tube of where to go and what to do. Not sure if I can share the link or not so if not check out my channel or contact me.... Its really fun if you follos the techniquest in the video. https://youtu.be/WO3RbqUKU8o

Thanks for the video! I realized this morning after watching it that it literally backs up to my sub-division so I hopped over on my lunch break. I limited out today but wasn't able to get them to hit the trout bites.

I limited out today but wasn't able to get them to hit the trout bites. How did you catch them? It seems like PowerBait loses its effectiveness after the first couple of days. I try white or other off color super dupers to catch them later in the season...

Wow those are nice sized trout, where were you fishing? Blanco State Park. They had an extra stocking two weeks ago. No one showed up. Me and my friends fished there 10 times and only saw three other people fishing. There were several days I was fishing by myself.

Panther Martin #4 gold inline spinner. Slow steady retrieve (this was at high noon on a sunny day). I actually just cast a couple of times on my way to the truck with my backup rod after getting shut out with the power bait just for sh*ts and giggles and never expected that I'd be limiting out in trout in 30 minutes. Pretty cool. Planning on taking the wife out there tonight!

We got shut out last night. Overcast sky and wind surely didn't help. I did catch one very small perch on some crappie bites (carolina rig) which was a surprise. The stomach of the trout I caught a few days ago were full of pink power eggs and I can't find any around here for the life of me so I used orange power bait that I already had and some random chartreuse crappie bites I found at Academy. Crazy how finicky there are some times. Probably won't go out again until this wind dies down... it's just not as enjoyable..
