May be the wrong spot for this, but one of my old Curado "greenies" has a "chatter" casting when the line goes out. I've had it cleaned/repaired twice by a "reputable" guy here on TFF and he can't seem to get it sorted out. It functions, but it's aggravating to hear it and it does seem to diminish the distance I can cast with it. If you're old enough imagine what a playing card in the spokes of your bicycle used to sound like. Not that loud of course, but kinda that sound. Ideas?

Sounds like one of you brake pins is loose. Take a pair of needle nose pliers and "wiggle" each one. If one is loose it will rattle when you cast. Just pull the loose one out and keep fishing. It will not effect your casting and will quite your reel down. I have a few reels missing two posts and they still work fine.

May be time to retire that 25 yr old reel Randy. LOL

Allen Bass Fisher is spot on. I’ve had this happen almost all of the old greenies I have. If you look closely on the spool, the plastic that holds the brake pins probably has a crack on it.

Yep thats the little brake pins on the spool that come loose and those spools are impossible to find... Sadly the best bet is try to figure out which pin is loose and pull it out problem fixed... I bought the last spool SW parts had like two years ago.

Check with Dad ol Tackle in Conroe.

Baaa haa haa Ken! I've got three of the new Curado k's and still love my old greenies better! And thanks folks. Took the side plate off today and viola. Fixed. How can a good repair guy NOT know this??? SMH!

Late to the party here but I have and old Gold Chronarch SF that I had to take three of the pins out of at the recommendation of the guys at Southwest parts. I have been fishing with it that way for several years now and it continues to work great! If they still made the old Curados, that is all I would fish with. I do not like the new ones as much and I own several.
