First time on Tawakoni today - Friday 11.6.20. I have read recent forum posts for ideas.. Using lake map, GPS/sonar, Mepps, Blade Baits, Deep running crank baits, Road Runners - I fished Cloud Point, Sky Point, Sun Point and Finger Point (edges and drop offs to deeper water when possible). I don’t troll. I was really shocked and confused over the distance from shore and expansiveness of shallow water on these points. I'm a decent angler but these factors left me with little confidence in what I was doing out there.

How do you experienced Tawakoni White Bass/Hybrid Anglers “safely” navigate the lake and fish these locations? Distance from bank, depth of water, preferred lures or any other tip you’d share. Any help would be appreciated. Humbling experience after my first time fishing Tawakoni.

It was a calm – blue bird day. No birds, No visible surface feeding yet plenty of shad on the graphs….

Welcome to the forum? Did you see any fish with sonar or side-scan? Was your problem locating fish or catching them once located? What depths were you looking in? How do you look for fish on a structure - make one pass over it or criss-cross it thoroughly using both sonar and side-scan to ID the fish?

You asked about depths, lures and other tips. I have fished 5 times lately posted by either SeaPro Todd or me: 7/15, 8/21, 9/13, 10/3 and 10/30. In each of these we tell where we caught them, the depths we caught them in and the lures we used. At each structure we make multiple passes over it criss-crossing from shallow to deep and deep to shallow to cover most of the structure. In all these trips fish were shallow (10 to 18 fow). I always use Mepps spinners and working a #2 like I show in my video is what worked best lately. The easiest way to locate fish is to use side-scan. Make a pass looking (for my device) 80 ft on both sides, then move over about 100 ft and make a parallel pass. Continue this until you find fish or cover the whole structure. We don't stop until we see fish on side-scan.

Twok is a tough/hazard lake for 1st timers. Just spend more time and you'll do fine.

Yesterday was not the best day for fishing and getting good numbers. With light wind, the fish scattered. I fished noon to 2:30 and saw no good concentrations of fish unlike Wednesday when they were stacked. The fish I caught and saw being caught yesterday were small by comparison to the larger fish on Wednesday. Some days are better than others. Don't get discouraged. After all it is called fishing not catching.

Dennis & Champion Fish

Thanks for responding and greetings to the forum.

My issue was getting my head wrapped around where to concentrate my time looking for fish on my sonar and side-scan. I did not spend any time looking for fish on the expansive shallow flats off the points – rather I make zig zag passes where the depth contours started changing to deeper water. Average water depth I searched was 8 to 20 feet of water.

Granted my sonar and side scan skills could be better – I can confirm and validate locating baitfish/shad but not so confident that I found schooling whites.

I will look at the previous post you provided with dates and see if Mr. Champion Fish provides a fishing report. Thanks guys.

Thanks RoadRunnerT R21 for the note and insight. Makes my first trip and lack of Twok experience a little easier to digest.

We caught all of our fish in 12-15 ft of water on Arigs. Watch the points that have deep water on them, Even though our fish were shallow, we feel like they were coming out of the deeper water as it warmed up. The water temp was 52 degrees when we unloaded at 7:30 but by 1:00 it was 64 degrees. Slow rolling arigs was the trick today. Caught some really good sandbass at the GPS on BoSpin slabs.

The middle of the lake between the dam and the 2 mile has loads of trees in it. Those you need to Mark yourself in your graph when the lake is low. There is a cut between the trees but you need to know where that is. The lake looked to be about 3 ft low so the trees are starting to stick up better.

I caught them today 11/7 on rsr tail spinner. Being directly on top of the school with slabs was Not working. It was best to just get on top of the hump and fan cast or watch side scan. When the fish came through it was fast catching. Slow rolling the tail spinner worked best for me. I was spot locked in 14ft of water.

Ambush spots are paying off. Good report. Ifn the long, extended or secondary point is curved to the south , even better as suns axis lowers to the south

I had the exact same experience as Southtxangler yesterday. I only fished for about an hour and a half and spent the first half the time trying to catch them on slabs from on top of them. No luck. After a while, I started to mark them on side scan and cast a tail spinner to them. That’s the only way I could get them to hit. All were very big sandbass.
