Last Sunday November 1st, the Ray Hubbard Bass Club in association with the American Cancer Society put on our Fifth Annual Fish For A Cure benefit tournament. It was a beautiful day, clear and sunny and temps ranged from the mid 40's to the mid 60's. The wind blew pretty good out of the north, but not as bad as predicted so that was a blessing. 58 boats came out for a day of fishing and to raise money for the fight against cancer. Fishing was pretty tough as it seems to be everywhere right now but as always a few teams caught them. Our winners this year was the team of Danny Wims and Justin Spoerl who weighed in a great bag of 19.56 pounds. This included big bass of the event, a 5.95 beast. My apologies for not knowing everyone's name. Here are full results and pictures Two of our longtime sponsors, Gary Hughes of Hughes Marine and Russell Olds from Illustrious Action Baits get ready for weigh in Tony Bryant and Brig Norwood fought Mother Hubbard all day and she gave them one Eric Giles and Tommy Yates fished and Eric's son brought their fish to weigh in Another team glad to have one fish James Clifton provided two great rods for our prize auction and his partner Steve Higgenbothom brought his huge grin and an open wallet as always. Thank you boys! Great to see former member Jason Fagan Sunday. He brought his son Jayce out to fish with him and he caught their keeper Chris Lewis caught two and then cleaned up in the auction afterwards! Brian Brooks fished with Randy Whitehead and they had two fish Here's Russell Olds with their one fish. It was a good one that went 3.87 and there were tales of a wayward net man as well...

Matt Martin of Martin's Marine and his wife Tiffany contribute prizes for us every year. We cannot thank them enough! Here's Matt with his 5.21 The other half of last years Champions Walter Archer fished with Tony Bevolo and they weighed in a limit Bill Babb and Mitch York with a nice bag of fish Ryan Autery fishing solo had a solid limit of 11.94 Chris DiGino and Graden Hansen had 12.04 for their five Tyler and Landon O'Connor came out early to help do live well checks and then went fishing and weighed in five for 12.10 Clint Yeager and Kevin Scott came out and had a limit for 12.14 Austin Miles and Ryan Nevil had five for 12.54 Taylor and Travis Gauntt had a solid bag of 12.78 My partner Chris Atkinson fished with his Dad Jay and they had a good day weighing in 13.11 with a 3.73 kicker The unenviable position of first out of the money went to Adam Vesely and Tyler Holmes with a 13.12 limit. Adam was key in putting the event together this year Chad Maddux and Jake Meeks are in the money at FFAC every year it seems. They weighed 13.39 this year And they got paid for it

Former FFAC Champion Eric Krause fished with Nick Allen and weighed a fat sack of 15.18 That was good for fifth place Weigh in is always a family affair for the Ross's. Here's Thomas and his two boys and the 15.74 sack they weighed in He fished with Chris Tilton from Napa Auto Parts in Wylie who always step up big for FFAC. They finished fourth Next up with a limit weighing 16.04 was Doug Rener and Brett Killingsworth Doug is a tireless volunteer for this event. His hard work and generosity from him and his family are much appreciated and Brett steps up with a major prize for our drawing every year. This event is not what it is yearly without these guys Chadd Dearen and Jay Shipe had an excellent bag of 16.73 That got them second place this year This years Champions, Danny Wims and Justin Spoerl won going away with a bag that went 19.56 That included big bass of the tournament, a 5.95 hawg To the winners go the spoils. Congratulations gentlemen! I will do a full thank you thread soon but I have to say we owe a huge debt of gratitude to Larry Ladnier of Victory Fishing who volunteers his time and equipment for Fish For A Cure and runs a fantastic tournament. Mostly thanks to everyone who came out in this the strangest of all years and helped raise a lot of money for the American Cancer Society.
