If alcohol and cigarettes are legal...

I agree with Raybob. The war on drugs has been a complete failure. Let them try the experiment and the let the rest of us know how it works out.

Alcohol will kill more people and cost society more than all other drugs combined.

Agree, their lobbies have to much power and money. Never heard a class action suite against them.

Just to be argumentative, do the taxes paid by alcohol offset society's cost?

Anything being criminalized never stopped it from happening. All it does is drive up crime, put them in jail and cost us money, then the cycle repeats when they get out. It will still jail the dealers. The users will likely be put into rehab rather than jail and hopefully break the cycle with enough to make a difference. This is the only thing from Oregon that I agree with.

Research it, not all things associated with alcohol are legal, i.e. DWI, assault caused by intoxication, underage drinking.etc.

I have been to countries where you can go into a drug store and buy any kind of drug you want--cheap. Strangely enough, you did not see people living on the street crapping all over the place like Kalifornia.

Having lived in Oregon for several years I can say that the eastern part of the state is conservative, ranches, farms, etc. The Willamette Valley on the western side is where Portland, Eugene are located and are very liberal in their thinking and actions. So the policies and votes are mostly on the western side. Same thing up in Washington state. I spent some time working in IT in Oregon and supported the governor's office back in the day. An interesting experience watching and listening to the BS that that flew around there. Nobody notices the IT guy so I heard and saw a lot of interesting stuff...:)

I still stay in touch with friends who live in Oregon and they say it's gotten weirder and weirder every year. But weed is dirt cheap...:)
