Question for the group...

I was given a few of these Buck Perry Spoonplugs and I think they could be too big and run too deep for the lakes I fish (Lewisville and Ray Hubbard).

This is a model 700. From what I gather they run up 20 ft deep, and is 4 inches long. Are these too big and too deep for what swims in Lewisville and Hubbard???

Any advice appreciated.

I'm not familiar with those lakes but I'd like to throw one of those on Amistad.

If there's timber or rocks you'll probably get it hung up. Like trying to fish one of the old mudbugs. That's a trollilng bait by the way.

Yep, I did know they were for trolling. Thought I'd ask the group if they were worth keeping/using, if so, I would buy a super duty heavy trolling rod.

It is an all metal bait. It will also work great giving it a quick lift and fall when Vertical Fishing. Fish it just like a jigging spoon through runs of bait fish and along side deep structure, like ledges and channel swings. It has an action when fished vertical like no other spoon bait. Those Bass have never seen it before. It is heavy enough to shake it right off of any wood that is down there when it does get hung. If you are not getting hung up with these type baits you are not fishing heavy enough wood. Even if you troll it and get hung; don't get excited and set the hook, just go back to it and get directly over it to jig it off the wood. When jigging vertical I take the front hook off.

I would put them in a showcase on the wall.

Buck Perry wrote about and fished a lot with spoon plugs and was considered by many to be the father of structure fishing. He generally trolled the spoon plugs. https://blueribbonbait.com/collecti...de-to-lunker-catches?variant=37470935561
