I spent a few days last weekend fishing the surf, on the north side of the old jetties at Fish Pass (I call them the "Double Dicks"
https://rb.gy/yzwpiz). The water was fantastic, emerald green with lots of bait. Good bird action too, but didn't see a lot of blow ups. Saturday morning (10/31) was great, casting from the second bar I was fishing one pole on the shore-side of the third bar and one pole on the Gulf side, live finger mullet on a fish finder rig. I thought about swimming to the third bar, but I'm old and the water was too cold.
Total catch:
* One slot red, 26", 6.5 lbs (kept, pic of dinner follows)
* One bull red, 42", 25 lbs (released)
* Three blacktips, to 40" (ish) (all released)
* One speck that would have kept (16"ish inches), but I released him.
I lost one or two fish -- the action in the morning was pretty hot, I couldn't keep both of my surf rods out before something would hit one of them. I wish I would have been standing on the third bar freelining live mullet, but the water was too cold. One of the fish I lost was a pretty monster speck, it took drag on my surf rod, but I lost him in the wade gut. So it goes. All of the best action was on the Gulf side of the third bar.

Yes, the fish was undercooked. It was dark and I was drinking. I threw it back on the grill for a few minutes, but I was too hungry to take another picture.
