Decided to head to Austin since i haven't fished it in about a decade and I wanted to see just what could be had there anymore. Well...mostly 1-1.5lbers, BUT

There is some grass coming back in spots up the lake and there is still at least one pig in the lake and it's still there. I went to one of me old favorite sweet spots and there she was. The bad news is it's been so long since I hooked a beast I completely went rookie and she broke off at the boat. A rough estimate is about 26", FAT and probably 7 pounds? I gotta start wearing my gopro again, but my back seat thinks the same. Hindsight I shoulda let him net it instead of trying to cradle it. Anyway, about 10am the pleasure boats came out and that was the end of relaxed fishing. Stayed out for a couple more hours anyway and caught a few more dinks.

Water clear to 5'
temp 58 north end, 60 at 360 ramp (which is ridiculously priced at $17.50 for two people) AND they only take cash. I won't make that mistake again.
Anyway, let's all hope this lake can come back stronger and stronger now that the powers have realized their mistake. There are still some carp in the lake though.

Oh another thing I saw was stands of reeds surrounded by fencing. No sure what that was about because they were in odd spots not where you'd think they were trying to stop shoreline erosion.

I didn't lose him at the boat. I shook him off cause I didn't want my hands to get "fishy"

Nice...were you out yesterday or today? Surprised there's still wake boats out en masse on a Monday. If you ever need a back seat let me know.

Was out Sunday. Its a real shame there is no courtesy a nd lakes are so dangerous anymore. There was a wake boat in front of me that slowed down for a ski boat either loading or unloading a skier and of course I slowed behind them. Another wake boat roared right past us both and decided to squeeze between the ski boat and the shore.

There are lots of times I'm looking for a back seat so I'll give you a shout here.

There's more morons/acre on Travis and Lake Austin than just about anywhere I've ever been. Maybe Lewisville is a close 3rd.

I just bought a new boat and I've been fishing Lake Austin quite a bit over the past 4-5 weeks during my break in period. I live close to the Walsh ramp off of Scenic Drive. In my half dozen trips I haven't caught anything over 1lb - 1 1/2lb. However, I have experienced a least one notable non fishing related event each trip. One time after tying up and retrieving my truck and trailer from the parking lot across the street I came back to to a homeless lady sitting in my boat. To top that just a few days ago I was out on an early morning trip and when I returned to the ramp around 11am I find a maintenance crew had decided to remove all the cleats from the docks. Luckily I had my bumpers and was I able to tie next to some concrete using a metal railing. After mixing in these types of things with the shear lack of courtesy from other boaters on the lake I've come to the conclusion it might not be worth it.

I used to live just 10 mins from the 360 ramp and after the first 5 trips during the day I tried to avoid the idiocy by going out after dark. Not successful. Between the drunk families and their kids swimming on the ramp, the blind drunks boating around and the people water skiing with NO lights on their boat, I never went back. And this was just before the major influx of wake boats. I recommend Decker if you can get your boat launched during this low water level period. Bring a gun if you plan on staying after dark.

Lake Austin has always been a head-on-a-swivel kind of lake. At least since I learned to ski in 1968.
