Friend of mine was out on his kayak this morning on Lake Worth, and found a body. Apparently, there was a wreck on the 820 bridge last Sunday, and a person was missing. Don't know if he was ejected, or somehow managed to fall off the bridge. Not a pleasant sight I'm sure. R.I.P.

I have thought about the possibility of that happening. Not a pleasant situation.

Yes Sir a very unpleasant situation. Prayers for the victim's family and friends. The Lord Jesus Christ has control.

We all need to be careful out on the water. Although this incident was not water related, it is sad the number of people that die in our lakes every year.

Now that'll mess up a day of fishing!

I had an episode a few years back that spooked me.
I was launching at 6am at the Quinlan Park (Steiner Ranch) boat ramp into Lake Austin. Two fishermen were there before me and warned me to watch out when launching because there was a car sitting underwater at the end of the ramp. That was when Quinlan Park road went directly into the lake without anything in the way. Sure enough, there was a Honda Civic underwater about 4 feet over the roof of the car. I was about to carefully launch when a Travis County Sheriff deputy approached and asked if I could run him around the car enough for him to get numbers off the license plate. There had been a missing persons report. This I did and let the deputy off. I then beached the boat and decided to take a dump in the park porta-can up the hill before fishing.
When I got out of the can, the park was swarming with police, sheriff's, and park rangers. A female APD approached me and told me I couldn't enter because this was a crime scene. I explained that my truck/trailer was in the parking lot and my boat was beached 20 yards away. She allowed me into the perimeter but I couldn't leave the parking lot. It was now 630am. An entire crime scene detail showed up, set up a canopy, tables, and equipment. I was interviewed by a couple of detectives, one a missing persons detective and one a homicide officer. It turns out there was no one in the vehicle, but I wasn't allowed to either fish or get the boat back on the trailer. The officers were protecting the crime scene.
I was there for 5 hours. Finally the two fishermen that warned me of the car initially showed up and they were told they couldn't take their boat off the lake. They asked if they could load out at the Steiner Ranch boat ramp (no relation to me) a quarter mile down the road. I explained I had a doctor's appointment that afternoon and I wanted to leave as well. The cops let us drive our trailers to that ramp and then come back to move the boats to that ramp and come out of the lake.
The diving team the police brought eventually found the victim later that day. She was mid-20's and a professional jazz dancer at the University, a very beautiful girl. She somehow got out of the car but got tangled in the hydrilla that was up to the surface in probably 10-12 FOW and drowned. She had been to a party in Steiner Ranch earlier that night and, unfamiliar with the area, had made a wrong turn. The park is small and not well lit, and she simply drove in the dark right into the lake. It made the Austin news that day. There are now blocks and stanchions that direct traffic away from the ramp and into the parking area. I guess it takes someone killing themselves to get any action from the Austin Parks & Rec. dept.

I was bank fishing at Lake Waco in 2016 and found one tangled up in flood debris. Still no ID on that one as far as I know... While it definitely hampers the spirits of the day, you cant help but think of their families.....

I had a similar experience. I was bank fishing the Colorado River below Lake Austin in 1981, when I noticed "Possum", (my Weimaraner), trying to dig something out of some bushes...turned out to be a skull belonging to a UT professor. She had been missing since her car was swept away in that year's Memorial Day flooding.

I remember reading about this. I believe it was an Asian guy who crashed on the bridge and was missing for a few weeks.

Yikes, prayers to the family. I think about that when fishing Ladybird Lake for some reason. I also have a fear that I will kick a dead body underwater while swimming.

Back when Phil Whittemote was still fishing the Tournament Trail he was doing some test runs in his new Bullet on a rather blustery autumn day. There was an older gentleman on a sailboard ripping aruond the same creek arm. On one of his runs he saw the man floating face down; he pulled him into his boat and ran him to the marina. Meanwhile, a woman who was watching all of this from across the lake with a telescopecalled the Sheriff’s Office and reported that Phil had run over him. I knew Phil well enough to know that he’d done no such thing, and when I arrived we confirmed that he had no marks on him. The woman insisted that she had seen Phil run over the guy; it could have been a bad day for him if the guy had shown signs of trauma. You never know........
