A
BIG thank you goes out to gar1970. Leo and I did a deal on some flies and he sent some jig heads along so I could get started tying while I get a more complete set up wrapped up. Well I tied up a mess and headed for my favorite crappie house on Lake Buchanan this past Monday. A cold front was barreling in full force and dropped the temps from 69 that morning into the mid 40s by the time I was fishing and the wind was howling out of the north. Anyway my hand ties outdid plastics 28 to 1 between me and my partner and that's not including dinks and non target species. White and chartreuse was the color combo of the day in both a marabou tail and hackle tip tail. Black and chartreuse also scored a few fish as well; two solid crappie came on pearl white with a dark blue marabou tail.
A few examples of the crappie. Most were solid fish in the 12 to 14 and 1/2 inch range

Then there were the "other" fish. Like this white bass

And one very lost and very small Rio. Had no idea they were in Buchanan until a couple of weeks ago.

Thanks again Leo. Now I have to order a lead pot and burner to get pouring my own heads. Definitely hooked on what hand ties are capable of producing.
