Time to harvest my nuts......pecan's that is. Been thumping around looking at nut crackers and have to decide wish one to get. I think I know which one..about $20 at Wallyworld. You know, the one with the hand lever that squashes them end to end. Which one do you use?

BTW, don't throw them shells away. Put them over your coals when your smokin' with pecan
I found out as I went thru the yard crackin' a few nuts that the meat was a bit rubbery.
After a little research I found out that the pecans were NOT dried enough. What's enough..I don't know.
Actually what people do is to spread the pecans on a table and place a fan near them where the air blows over them.
I assume one would have to crack a few to see f they were dried out enough..NOT rubbery. So, I have a truck load to pick up and go from there.
Some folks just put the pecans in an onion sack and hang up somewhere. Learn something every day!! thumb

We live in pecan country so on good years have a lot. I use an inertial unit to bust them but our biggest nuts are burkets so some work involved. My Mom would sit for hours watching Walker Texas Ranger and shell using a York sheller with a big plastic bowl in her lap! And I swear she hardly ever looked at the pecans she was shelling. Rote memory I guess. Enjoy! And that hand lever unit works fine once you get the pressure right.

I use the York shelter. It does a good job and relatively fast. My father-in-law use to shell several hundred pounds a year with the York.

The more you practice shelling them, the better you'll get with the York.
