What's everyone's take on this big cold front coming through today? Waste of time fishing tomorrow morning? I could just go sit in a tree but I still have the crappie bug getting at me......

Bring it on! I was planning to try today but the rain has flooded my creeks. Cold fronts this time of year are good in my opinion. Fish still have to eat everyday.

Just go give it a try. I have had the results go either way. It will probably be really good or terrible.

I’m gonna be at Clark in Ennis tomorrow. It was fantastic Wednesday so I’m gonna find out how it is affected by this front. Bardwell was extremely slow Tuesday with only 9 fish in 5 hours. I was very surprised at Clark the next day. They can’t be more than 5 miles apart. Prolly caught 40 fish in 5 hours, from 9:30am to 2:30pm. Water temperature was 71. It’ll be interesting to see how much it drops with the cold rain.

I’m bringing everyone I know to Clark tomorrow.

Just kidding. Not even sure I can get out.

Yeah. I like the first real fall cold fronts. Even though it's cold up here, the water doesn't cool down that quick

Cold fronts have always been slow fishing to me.

I had to change a sprinkler pump in a storeroom on the boathouse last week. Had to get in the water (8') to clean the filter on the suction to get the new pump to work right.

This time of year the surface temp. Might be 71, but the water temp a couple of feet down felt like it was 20 degrees colder.

I hit up Clark this morning at 9:00. Left at 3:00 with 13 fish. Caught 17. Water temp was 66 when I got there and 68 when I left. It was 71 degrees Wednesday and the bite was about 3 times as fast. Fish were in the same spots but weren’t as willing to cooperate today. It was a beautiful day to be out.

It was 68-69 degree water temps where we went Saturday. Couldn’t find any stacked like I thought they would be.

the fish on belton are starting thier late fall /early winter transition,, the shad are schooling in smaller pods in open water, and making thier way south.,. they will stage most of the winter near the huge sandflat where the hybrids hang out, there is a steep drop off along the rock wall across from the big sand flat, near the pump station in the corner . if you go drift or troll some dropshot rigs along that rock wall, in 22 to 26 feet of water, you can do good.... sometimes even deeper.. ,,
theres deep submerged trees along the breakline, so with the dropshot rig u get less snags.. if u have a rodholder set up and can troll a few rods, even better,,,, I like to sometimes do a controlled backwards drift,,, your not fighting the wind as much,
the bite be short lived, and fast and furious.,,. they may only bite for an hour, early morning, mid morning, morning.. even late evening being patient and figuring out thier feed schedule is key,, the day after , and second day after a coldfront when the barometric pressure is rising and the skies are bluebird, it will be tough.. if the barometer stays steady, like after this last front, it doesnt affect them as much...post front conditions they also tend to hold tighter to the deep trees and bottom. JMO...
frustrating sitting there when theres a large amount of fish under u and not biting,, but patience is key. The hybrids, black bass sandbass, ect are all herding the shad up onto that sandflat from deeper water, and the crappie are following them and cleaning up the leftovers.,.,
the shad have access to deep water, and the sandflat to feed off of all winter, and use the old roadbeds in that area as highways.
this time of year when the brushpiles are holding a few small crappie each, you can bet they are transitioning,, the little crappie are the last to leave the piles, and first to arrive after spawn in my experience.
There will also be many fish hanging around the marina at cedar ridge.

COMING SOON! .. THE STICKLE HOOK " the stay level sickle hook". sits level in the water with all knots.! Provides better hook sets and more natural jigging motion. No more adjusting the knot, gluing , or tying loop knots that cause the hook point to tangle in the loop, or worse knick the line.. The jighook that will make all others obsolete !

I focused on ledges and main lake brush in 16-24ft this morning and found them willing to cooperate for whatever that's worth.
