OK, i'm tired of replacing rod guides because my braid to fluoro knot knocks the eyes out. Want to go to the FG knot, but I am worried about the half hitch that holds the knot, What's to keep the half hitches from unraveling over time and coming loose when I have a 10 pounder on? I know that some use super glue, but I'm not going that route. Will the half hitches stay put or not?

I use double half hitches and use more than most. I cut the braid tag end to about 1/4" and use a lighter to back the rest of tag end to the knot, getting rid of the fray and creating a little bulb on the end. Seth feider has a good video on the FG and preventing the half hitches from backing off.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rjaj-LM_L0Y&t=99sThis video is how I learned how to tie it. The only thing I do differently is on the last segment, I do 8 wraps around the mainline vs the 6 wraps as shown in the video. Make sure you wet and tighten down firmly the tag ends first, then the mainline ends. I was having some fg's slip out using 12 lb braid to 6-8 lb fluoro but it stopped when I added the extra two wraps to the last segment of the knot and increased the force that I tightened the tag ends. I've not used super glue on this knot.

I have been fishing braid to flouro for years and using the FG knot. Have never had one unravel. I usually tied about four or five alternating half hitches and then burn the ends a bit with a cig lighter. Have been doing the Rizzuto finish lately and like it better. https://youtu.be/QTXiHdR8kFUThe only difference in the way I tie it is that I snip off the flouro before I tie the Rizzuto. The Rizzuto is only the braid tied back over the braid.

Been using the FG for several years and still wonder why the last two (I tie 3 or 4 since the idea is to cover the fluro tag) half hitches stay tight but they do, never had one move.

I donโt glue or burn ends and not since I started pulling knot tight after the first half hitch have I ever had a problem. 20 alternating wraps. One half hitch around main and leader. Pull knot tight then 3 half hitches around main line then finish with slip knot. My line will break before knot slips. Now I do change leader about every two or three trips.
