The Fall Brawl on Cedar Creek is in full swing as we speak, and I'm really happy with how this season is developing. Unlike the last two years, this October is pleasant and unfolding slowly. We haven't had large rainfalls and huge drops in temperatures, so this season is shaping up to last a lot longer. What I mean by that is our water temps are still in the mid 70s, which leads me to think the crappie fishing will continue to be strong well into late November and early December. The last two weeks has seen an improvement in our jig bite, with minnows no longer being a necessity. We are fishing Ghost Minnow Thump Chubbies from Constant Pursuit Outfitters and the Palmer Pile Driver from Slab Syndicate Jigs. Those are the only two baits I'm having to use to bring limits in the boat right now. Our techniques are fairly simple. If someone wants to shoot docks, we shoot docks. If someone is wanting to hit brush, then we will do so. With the exception of shooting docks, we are still vertically jigging. The bridges are also holding good numbers for those who wish to fish in those areas. Regardless of location, our best depth as of the last few days has been 8-15ft on the main lake. I am seeing large amounts of fish on the 198 bridges, but I haven't seen good numbers of fish on the brush or docks in the creek arms yet. That will change as the water temps start to dip into the 60s which should happen within the next week. As November approaches, I expect to see fish migrate from the main lake itself and into the major creek arms and coves off the main lake. I also expect that pitching a jig will be VERY deadly once we see the water temps drop a little more. I expect the jig bite to only get better until the water hits the upper 50s, and then I bet we will start using a few live minnows. We now have two full time guides running Monday through Saturday, each of us in 24ft BlueWave boats rigged with Livescope. Speaking of which, a big thank you to David Goodson over at Shut-Up-And-Fish for rigging these two boats up with all our new gear. You knocked it out of the park buddy!
