I recently moved to Granbury, and started fishing the lake, It seems to be a little more challenging than I thought it would be. Once you go up into the river channel itself, how is the bass fishing up there and Other species. Also can I run the river channel or is that not advised.
Thank you

You can run from the dam all the way to the start of the river by simply following the buoys. When you get up above the highway 51 bridge past Hunter Park for the last mile or so into the river stay right on the buoys as the boat lane gets really narrow. After the buoys end you are in the actual river and can run for a couple miles above Tin Top Bridge. Just use common sense on the river. Stay towards the middle of the river channel and you are fine. Your greatest danger up river is the tsunami’s waves off all the huge wakeboard boats skiing up there. I love fishing the Brazos River above Whitney and Granbury but I don’t usually do that good above Granbury. Nice ride though.

I can tell you i have lived in granbury for 8 years now. I fish lake granbury 2-3 times a week. I have gone north of hwy 51 maybe 3 times. Its sketchy and you can be literally up a creek quick. I have seen some stumps feet from the channel markers and people run by them going 70mph. if you do run north, you just need to take it sloooow first time or two and then once u have ur lane, you can run it later on. There is a stump on a channel swing that is literally right beside the channel marker. not sure if you stay north or south of it. Certain times of the year, like the spawn, north is hot. Other times, south towards dam is hot.

Been fishing Granbury since way before the bouys. We always called the area between Straud and Robinson the Bermuda triangle.

Yep. Used to ski up the river in the early 80’s. Was always amazed by the ski boats running around out from Hunter park with no idea of what lurked just under the surface. The buoy system is actually great but the last stretch before entering the river is a little tight because of the shallow silted in area but big ski boats navigate it all day long to get up into the river. Still if someone doesn’t know where is clear and where is not the buoys are good from the dam to the river IF you follow them.

We are doing an Airbnb rental on the lake for my birthday this week until Sunday, was out on the lake yesterday and totally skunked trying to locate black bas, stripers, and sand bass...notta! Any help (other than go to another lake) would be much appreciated!

Not sure if there are any guides on Granbury or not.
