Conditioned bass
Bass in lakes with heavy pressure can become conditioned, most anglers jump on the bandwagon success breeds copy cats, remember when fork first opened everyone and his brother in-law was throwing a white spinner bait.
A long tree line on fork just north of the west 515 bridge was fished by hundreds of boats everyday, all fishing horizontal presentation casting to the bank and retrieving back out, the bass can be very conditioned to this activity and so the always wanted to be different fish vertical presentation cast a worm to the far tree let it fall vertically then swim it to the next tree and fall vertical much more natural presentation, also dabbling a 3 inch white single tail grub next to timber works on conditioned bass.
I generally avoid the bass craze, the jig and pig craze, the frog craze, or any recognized standard like a white spinner bait in fork, be different.
Riprap
Everyone and there brother in law throws crankbaits on riprap, I never will, I’ll fish something nobody else would fish like a small frog or sassy shad or single curly tail grub or weightless twitch worm.
Docks, marina’s, tire reefs
Beatle spins, sassy shads, single tail white grubs all fished like crankbaits and vertical jigging pilings, small rapala’s over brush piles next to docks, small inline buzzbaits with a ribbon tail worm pulled off the banks near docks works well
Boat ramps
Rocky sides and the drop off at end of boat ramps always have fish regardless of loading and unloading activities, single tail white grub down the sides, split shot worms on the drop off and twitch worms on the ramp works good.
Pads
Even though frogs and buzzbaits are over used in pad and grass they still will work, try a large fat balsa wood crankbait in the pads
Grass walls
I fish fluttering spoons down grass walls And any vertical structure
Bass suspended of creeks in fall and winter
Small rapala’s and crankbaits worked like a top water work well also twitch worms, in a heavy ripple on sunny days a torpedo works great with a steady retrieve bass don’t attack it but just suck it down.
Success
I’ve never had much success on crankbaits and don’t think I’ve ever caught bass on lipless crankbaits unless you count the Heddon sonic, that thing could sack em up. Black color
I’ve never caught anything on Drop shot either split shot or jig / worm are much better or Texas rigged
Not much success on Jig and pig from a boat, wadding is far greater success and I don’t know why, maybe the angle of the rod and being in the water your pulling along the bottom more than hopping it, I’ve had far greater success fishing small boats than big boats, and the greatest success in bank fishing and wadding, maybe your more focused on fishing and not on gadgets and boat positions and trolling motors, who know why but great are the memories! These are my experiences! There’s no right or wrong, the old sayings are the best. Works for me!

I wonder how KVD and Aaron Martens ever made it to the top.

If you've never caught anything on a lipless crankbait then by all means keep doing what you are, or aren't, doing! Now the statement I’ve never caught anything on Drop shot either split shot or jig is one that surprises me since you are the King of Light Line!

I rarely ever fish one, maybe that’s why, they seem to be antithetical and illogical at times, crawdad pattern when the action of the bait is that of shad? I’ve caught tons of sandies on a Crome spot,

Why idolize and glorify the pro’s?
There the curse of the bass fishing sport! They make it far more expensive than it should be, Who but the working man is forced to pay all those millions In payouts the manufacturers (pimps) pay to the pro’s (their whores) How many are priced out of our sport and all sporting arts including golf etc? Walmart to the rescue, if I can help it I’ll never shop corporate dealers like bass pro and cabelas, family owned and operated sure, and never by a brand name or corporate brand If I can find genetics!
Power to the people, there ought to be tackle co-ops or something reasonable, There were about 15 independent family owned tackle stores in Dfw before bass pro and cabelas force them out, now they are monopolies! High prices on steroids!

You fish crank baits in lily pads and have never caught anything on a drop shot????? Does your crank bait get hung up much trying to fish it in lily pads? You are too funny, thanks for the laugh. The stuff you post on here is total nonsense.
I caught 51 bass yesterday, all on a drop shot.
