My 2021 property taxes here in Alabama. When I retire in 3 years they will be frozen. I will also pay zero income tax if I limit my 401k withdrawal to $24k or less. SS income is not taxed. Which means I have to budget less than $200 a month for taxes and home owners insurance.

Be glad you don't live in Virginia. Try owning a $80,000 truck in Virginia .......personal property taxes on vehicles = $4.57 per $100 of assessed value.

In the Bluegrass...I pay $200/month to keep the Commonwealth from taking my house away.

Then again, my home is modest in comparison to the mini-mansion many of you call home.

A couple of months ago I got a request from the local school district to accept $500 because they hadn't used the actual homestead exemption for a couple of prior years . In their benevolence , they didn't want us to lose any money to the lawyers that were preparing a class action suit . They DID request that we donate the money back to the schools to help defer expenses from dealing with Covid .

I didn't respond and lo and behold my taxes dropped several hundred this year . wink

I've got a buddy that's been stuck up there for about 8 years now. Works for a govt contractor and lives near DC. He just got approved to work from home, him and his wife cannot wait to get out of VA.

My taxes aren't bad for 50 acres, 2200 sq ft and outbuildings. About $1500
