Went there yesterday and caught 2 keepers and a dozen little guys. I fished all over the lake and saw big schools of crappie on standing timber in Richardson slough with LiveScope but they had lock jaw.used jigs and minnows very frustrating. I guess I need a pro to show me how to locate using side imaging in open water. [Linked Image]

The two hogs I did catch were hanging out two feet off the bottom sucked up to the trees. Both were 2 lbs

I didn't really find any fish on ledges or breaks. There was a huge school on a small drop where Bentman lost the first fish. Another one close to it too, and they just would not bite after that. I'm thinking we spooked them. They were also not there anymore later in the day. Another pile I think there was a baby pulled off of it, and then nothing again.I was marking some fish on deeper stuff, same as above, but we couldn't get a bite and the bipolar wind had picked up too much while we were in that area. I marked small groups on some other shallower trees, but we either spooked them or they just wouldn't bite either. One of those Benbrook days I guess

As far as finding them in open water, I was using my map more than anything else to search bottom structure. I just happened to drive over something that looked like a bush or a school of fish, so I decided to check it out.

This was the last of four schools I fished on top of a hump or ledge. I eased up close to them to take the pic after I limited, but I stayed further away when fishing them because like Bassman_78 said, I got the impression that they were a little boat shy the day I was there. They are hanging near where the dropoff begins. In some other places I found them the water came up to about 16 feet deep and the school profile looked similar to this. The biggest fish and the ones most likely to bite were near the bottom. I only caught about three up in the water column.

I hope this helps.

My wife and I, plus 4 of my kids will be camping out there this weekend. It's only about a 10 minute drive from the house but the kids love camping. Of course I will be taking my pontoon with me. Hope to put my kids on some crappie. Benbrook can be a tough lake to fish sometimes, or at least for me. Great catch sir!

Yeah. That's where we are now. Water is about 5 1/2 feet low but not horrible.
