Fished Ray Roberts recently and I couldn’t tell if these fish were scattered or grouped up suspending. I caught 10 fish, all under 13”, at the base of trees flipping.
The whole time I’m seeing large bass jumping clear out of the water blowing up on Shad so I transition to top water Shad imitation and fished for hours rotating between A rig, pop-r, walking baits and swimbaits. Nada.
I’m wondering if I’m not positioning right on schools of bass, or if I’m chasing around scattered fish with no necessary pattern.
I’m sure someone’s gonna say that I should’ve stayed on the flipping bite until I ran into bigger fish...but I couldn’t resist giving it a go.

It’s like that at a lot of lake right now.
I can’t pin em down either. I’ve tried a lot of stuff. I’m only able to scratch small limits right now. Usually 5 on 5 different techniques. Sometimes VASTLY different. Horrible way to spend money and a day.
Eat. Sleep. Fish.

Yeah it’s been very tough. Bait scattered throughout water column. Think the bass are very spread out right now. First wave pushed up last week with cool trend and caught them in 0-3’, then it warmed up and they backed out. We caught our fish on Texoma yesterday in 15-25’ of water and nothing up shallow except an 8lb striper after catching them shallow week before

It’s tough for me right now. I can’t catch them on a summer pattern or a fall pattern. Just a few random fish. I’m throwing what I think should be working and my 11 year old just throws what he thinks looks cool and he’s been beating me every trip.

Last week I was catchin 'em pretty goot on topwater lures where it was 40ft deep with bright afternoon sun, not a cloud in the sky. It was hillarious. I saw a bunch of splashing in the middle of nowhere, and assumed it was sandies. Turned out to be a mix of largemouth, spotted bass, and smallmouth and I was catching them on every cast.
Went back there a few days later, nothing. All gone.

I was fishing with a guy that casted his top water a long way out and backlashed....while he was fixing it and bass exploded on it. I’m trying to get as many casts in as possible and he gets nailed with it just sitting there.
Crazy...

I'm catching 10 - 12 each trip fishing daylight till dark. At least a couple 3 to 4 pounders each trip. I have been fishing mostly steep drops. Seems like there is just a random fish on the edge up shallow on those steep rock banks that drop to 20 to 30 FOW. I can't find anything offshore. Cant get bit pitching to cover. Can't get bit at any depth off those drops. Can't get bit off points at any depth. I caught lots of sandies all summer fishing for LM, haven't caught a sandy or even seen them schooling the last 5 trips. I'm not complaining, this Summer kicked my azz.
