You can't get any more detailed than that. You made some excellent points that made me rethink verticle presentation for white bass.

Awesome video Bob! I’ve caught several casting out and working it back towards the boat in similiar fashion or simply lifting the bait up off bottom as high as I can reach. I bet I’ve caught about 800-1000 white bass on your lure since I bought my first one in August

Fished Belton Sunday from 9:30 to noon using this lure and technique. I caught 35 keeper whites, a 17 inch smallmouth, 2 keeper black bass, and 12 undersized whites. All fish were in 49 feet of water released to be caught again. I was using barbless hooks and all fish survived well. It was a fun morning.

nice video - I'm a huge fan of the mepps for white bass and was using before i found this forum after moving down here in 2012 - and only got better after reading some of the posts here. This video was a nice clear explanation for using spinning gear to jig a mepps.
To add my two cents - love your lure - it definitely helps with some of the weaknesses of the normal mepps in white bass fishing - especially since i fish from both boat, kayak, and shore - the ability to pull out something with some weight for the cast has been nice especially in a breeze/wind or from shore. I have found truth to the size comments motioned elsewhere or this time of year - but i also know that if you present it they will still hit it - as evidenced by the number of ~6-7" white bass that have hit the mal lure. First time I had your lure out a few weeks ago we caught a few more on the #2 mepps - but the MAL lure was easier to cast and use for my father and son in the wind - so they ended up preferring it. If we could get some #2's or #3's of the same design i'd probably save my remaining normal mepps for when I'm on streams instead of white bassin.

This is a followup to the video -- a few folks have asked why I suggest reeling the MAL Lure up 1/3 of the way straight toward the surface.
This is done because, although there are exceptions, the vast majority of the white bass I catch originate from the bottom. By reeling the lure (the MAL Lure or any other lure used vertically when the fish are in a positive, aggressive mood) up 1/3 of the way toward the surface, you are making the bait look like a shad fleeing for its life. The distance you cover while reeling simply allows both time and space for the fish to sense the lure, locate the lure, begin to pursue the lure, overtake the lure, and strike at the lure. If you only "hop" the bait off the bottom or reel it a shorter distance, you're results will suffer.
Next, the reason we do a "plain Jane" retrieve by reeling at a steady cadence is so the fish's pea-sized brain can calculate an angle of pursuit and overtake the lure more often than not.
Next, white bass are a schooling fish. They always group together with other white bass. When I do a vertical retrieve up 1/3 of the way toward the surface, even those fish not interested in pursuing the lure all the way to its stopping point still rise up off the bottom. As they do so, they create commotion by their movement, and their silhouettes appear above other schoolmates holding down lower in the water column. With all of this commotion taking place, other fish are drawn into the commotion from the surrounding area. This is similar to what a "thumper" accomplishes.
Finally, I have a mantra on my boat which goes like this ... "Don't jig it, juke it, jive it, or jerk it -- just reel it straight in!" The more variation in speed you introduce and the more changes of direction you introduce, the tougher you make it for a fish to grab your bait. As all of you veterans know, the K.I.S.S. principle (Keep it simple, stupid!) is hard to argue with!!
If you watch shad being chased by whites and hybrid, they just turn on the afterburners and swim straight and fast. They don't maneuver around intricately and the definitely never slow down.
We're just trying to get the lure to appear as the white bass are accustomed to seeing the shad they feed upon.
Hope that helps. Thanks for the questions!
