I often get asked how I catch records on most of the trips I take. Although I often do pretty well, there are lots of trips I can't catch fish. Last week in Colorado was one of those trips. roflmao

From a fishing standpoint the whole trip was "one of those trips." It started with only getting to fish around a small Denver lake without a bite. One day I drove 3 hours to a mountain lake only to have the road closed because of fires (I was told that morning the road was open). The next day resulted in another road closure within miles from the lake I wanted to fish. I tried several lakes and streams for hours and only hooked up 2 small trout that I lost before getting a picture. I even hiked to a glacier lake only to have a cold front blow in and completely shut the fishing down (I was told you should have been here yesterday). Finally, I decided I could not go back to Texas without a picture of a fish and I stopped at a small pond before I came home. Although the purpose of the trip was not fishing, here is my total catch for the trip:

So the moral of the story is that you have to keep fishing to have those great days of fishing you often hear about. I still had a great time with some great views.

Barry, even a rookie knows that you don't go to Colorado without waders and wading boots. Up there you catch fish by being in the water with them, not from the shore. But you did catch a real beauty in your wife.

roflmao I had both chest and hip waders with me. I have done well in Colorado in the past. I just thought this trip was a good example of a different kind of trip. And as far as my wife goes, she is a gift from God. She was my high school sweetheart and I was smart enough to know I would never find anyone better. She is the only female angler with both a freshwater and saltwater elite angler award. And after over 40 years of marriage I am used to her out fishing me.

For scenery like that, the effort involved was worth it. thumb
