Haven't committed fully yet, but my wife has decided it's time I sell my 98 Z71, and we get a Wrangler..... The Z gets driven about 5 times a year to the carwash and she thinks if we get a horrible driving jeep, we'd actually use the 3rd vehicle instead of it sitting out back.

What millage would be too much on anything 05-08? I came across a sweet 4dr Rubicon but it's got a ton of miles and I suspect it's been through the ringer. But, if it's only getting driven here and there, I'm not too concerned as long as long as everything isn't about to fall apart on it.

I'm more leaning towards 70's 80's cj with a V8 somewhat "restored" using that loosely - doesn't need to be a daily driver, or show vehicle, just be able to put the wife and kids in it and go down the highway a little ways every so often without shaking apart.

What are yalls thoughts/experiences?

My wife wants a Wrangler too. I’d like to hear some opinions on buying used, also.

Find an 2005-2006 with under 100k with the 4.0 and never look back. Those straight 6cyl engines were beast just like the Ford 300 straight six.

I had 2 great experiences selling my wranglers. Got nearly what I paid for them . I had an 08 and a 10 . Both were 4 door and I loved them at the lease. Buy used, about 4 years old. Keep 4 years and sell for less than 10 percent depreciation. They are great fun, but the top is [censored]. Only way I would do it again is if it is garage parked and never has the doors on it. Using the roll cage as a turret while blasting pigs in a field is too much fun.

Good luck finding on with a reasonable price.

The prices some folks ask for high milage Jeeps are laughable.

I love my Wrangler. If I get rid of it...it will be to buy another. Please note...I do not travel long distances in my Wrangler.

Is that the same 4.0 they had back in the 90's? I had a grand cherokee with one that was a tank, until I put it under water.

I really haven't entertained the idea of a newer jeep since that one, but have always wanted a Renegade or similar on 35's with a 350 like you'd find in grandpa's barn. But.... things change.

How much do you want for that old Z71?

I drove my 2015 from OK to Port A (600 miles one way), and the ride was not bad on smooth pavement. However, the ride on a road surface that is the least bit rough will bring blue words to a preacher's lips.

Older Jeeps are popular/have very good resale value (the used Jeep market reflects that)
I think you get much better value purchasing a used 4Runner along with better reliability.

Stay away from any with a 4cyl. and/or square headlights, rust. Strongly lean towards a hard top and full hard doors - not the halfs. You'll not regret it. It's a Jeep thing...

The wife and I really enjoyed our 2008 Wrangler, 2-door rag top for rides in the country. Just traded it in on a new Gladiator and will miss it. The Gladiator is a beast and now I don't need a second vehicle to pull the boat.
