Very simple question. For a trolling motor that is capable of spot lock, should I go with minn kota or garmin? Does not have to talk to any units. I just want the trolling motor to keep me in one spot when needed.

I can't tell about a comparison as I have never used a foot control MK before only hand ones - I just put the Garmin on and have been very pleased - anchor mode is dead on even if a 20+ mph wind last weekend. Top speed is very much higher than my previous MK 101. I needed one with a remote and wireless foot pedal so I could move the foot pedal around to use only with my left foot - works just fine - most complaint I've seen is that the MK feels more like the original cable steers but since I never used one nothing to compare.

Minn Kota. It’s more like a REAL trolling motor.

I have a garmin 57" on a 95 202 champion, love it. had a fortrex 112 and the garmin on 36v has a lot more power. you can hook it up 24 or 36v and don't have to do a thing to change, brushless motor is super quiet too. I went whole hog and got the force tm, livescope, 2 93 sv plus graphs and all total it is about 7,500.00 all in/installed. even without the graphs the garmin is a great tm, remote is great and foot pedal just takes a bit of adjusting to how hard you push on it, softer than a cable steer. you can upgrade later to livescope or just a graph and then follow contours and some other cool features. anchor lock is spot on, huge benefit if the wind is blowing .

I run a Ghost and love it. The reason I went with the Ghost was because I run Lowrance screens and becuase i liked the fact that the "head" does not move so you dont have to worry about the cables wrapping around the shaft as it turns. just my I also agree with Herb about that Champ... it is a beaut for sure but i am partial because I have a 201 DC.

I bought used for 950.00 Plenty of people bought the link and found that they don't use it. Post an ad and ask to pay someone to do a head trade. Doesn't matter which size they have all heads are the same. Remove a few screws then unplug a couple of wires and good to go. I traded for one a few years back when I had a terrova.

Had the Ultrex on my old boat, just installed the Ghost on my new to me boat and this thing is awesome.
Very quiet and I love how it automatically adjusts the head when you stow it so it sits in the right position every time. Would not buy another Ultrex again, too many issues with spot lock and very loud.

Spot locks are great and a game changer. My ultrex has been in the shop twice in a year, thing is noisy, and spins left and right about 45 degrees when I first lock on a spot about 50% of the time and does it for about 45 seconds then quits, has gotten under my skin. I will be looking hard at the ghost when they come out with a V2.
