Was out at Richland Chambers this weekend for the first time since early May. Was amazed to see that huge areas that once had grass are completely void of it now. Also most of the current year growth on the lilly pads is dead. Did the lake get sprayed? I know the lake came up a good bit a month or so ago and that can sometimes kill some lilly pads, but this looks like more than that. The area behind pelican island back towards the rv resort had tons of grass in early May. There isn't a single patch of grass in there now. Same thing in the middle part of three fingers. All that grass is dead. Just curious if anyone knows what happened.

If your talking about big buck cove yes I think the new homeowners in there sprayed it or had it sprayed

I saw a post several months ago where they put a notice out on FB saying they had plans for herbicide treatments out there this year. I know that's frustrating for y'all.

What facebook page do they post those notices on?

Its a shame. I hope they regret the damage they cause to the lake and environment.

its odd because they planted a bunch of brush in that cove for fish habitat but they don't seem to want the grass

As Richland Chambers and the lakes connected to it via pipeline are managed for local communities potable water, I wonder what EPA, etc. awareness there was in regard to the spraying.

It would be interesting (in my opinion) to hear what TPWD has to say about applications of herbicide, etc. to waters that it oversees for recreation and fishing purposes. Probably to busy providing free helicopter surveys to MLD ranches.
Meanwhile, there are over 100K members of this forum. More than enough to "raise awareness' to bad environmental practices.

There are several (many) professional fishing "businesses" that have tournaments and other activities planned for Texas lakes in the upcoming months. These activities, while not on Richland Chambers, will bring in a considerable amount of revenue to the state and local areas. What happened on RC has occurred and continues to occur on many Texas waters. These "businesses" should be made aware of these practices and asked to make a statement showing their disapproval.

Too many lake that had great constant grass year after year that are not even a shadow of what they were.


If they did have a care we would know it.

Side note -
As a long time resident of north Alabama (Pickwick, Wheeler, Guntersville), I can tell you that the battle against grass eradication is a difficult one.
In the 80s and 90s, fisherman banded together and with cooperation from local cities (big economic impact) were able to shift the thinking at TVA.

You can do it in Texas also.

An occasional forum post with "it sure is sad" wont get it done.

Need that for the rest of Texas.

The economic impact of lost revenue from fishing (taxes on gas, hotels, food, launch fees, etc) outweighed the economic impact of thousands of home owners protesting their property tax values and/or not investing in areas through home purchases? Maybe in Alabama, but not in Texas.

Oh and not saying it’s a bad idea, but its not original. I’d love to see it happen, it’s been attempted. Money always wins.
