Anybody been out there lately? Haven't been since February. Water temps? Shad/bass moving out of deep water? Thanks! Headed out there this weekend.

Man...this makes me feel so much better, lol. I'm brand new to LBJ. Launched at Kingland and fished way up the river. Also launched at the Yacht Club and tried that area...I would say all together I've caught 2 or 3. Only one being over 2 lbs, lol. This lake is a mystery to me right now.

I'll give an update on Monday 10/12 after our tournament. My most favorite lake of all times! I have a couple of places on LBJ that have produced 7+ lb'ers on almost every trip. Find the stillest, dirtiest water (old concrete boat slips) off of main lake and you'll find them. A Yellow Magic is the ONLY lure I throw on LBJ and I fish it slooooooowww! Those fish can't stand it!!

I've never been on this lake before but will be there next month.

Is there anything in particular I need to be aware of in terms of running the lake?

I can see the water intake on Navionics, but where is the hot water discharge? Is this it (red rectangle)?

Power plant: [Linked Image]
Intake: [Linked Image]
Discharge: [Linked Image]
My wife reserved a place at Horseshoe Bay for several days last October for my birthday. Had a great time there and did a little sightseeing in my boat from the dam to far up the Colorado River. While LBJ is relatively easy to navigate around be very mindful of rounding some of these โ€œpointsโ€ such as out in front of the power plant from the intake to the discharge. I running on plane way over 100 yards out into the lake from the plant and happen to get a glimpse of something just under the surface. Glance at my depth finder and depth instantly changes back and forth from 50โ€™ to 3โ€™. Giant granite boulders not where you might expect them to be. So close to ripping off my lower unit. Have seen this up river from Marble Falls, LBJ....but giant granite bolder gardens midlake? YES.

Thanks!

Navionics has the discharge labeled as the intake, so this will straighten me out.

Lbj isn't a power plant lake. It's sucks right now since there is no grass and the big floods silted in many portions of the lake. It's the new normal

It has been incredibly slow this year. Three weeks ago my son and I caught 4 in about two hours on the main lake side of the HSB lighthouse peninsula but that was probably our best trip since March. I'll be back out there tomorrow morning for a few hours before the football games get started. I would expect the shad should be heading up the creeks by now???

Shad balls are everywhere back in the coves, but fishing is still tough

Yeah, I saw the same thing...and experienced the same thing, lol. I even saw a few nice bass in the back of a few coves but they were VERY skittish. I'll probably head back out there next week. I need to fish the main lake side a bit more.

Got there just before first light yesterday and had a really good day. Shad are def moving back into the creeks and bass are following. Fished a creek with quite a bit of shallow vegetation (not hydrilla) that I had caught fish out of before, but it didn't produce anything. As always, a Spook is my go to topwater, so that's what I started with and fished the mouth all the way back in that creek. Spook, Jackhammer, and spinnerbait all without any bites for about an hour. As I've not fished LBJ a lot I just decided to fish areas I'd never fished before and looked on my graph for creeks that had deeper water near the docks. Headed out to one of them around 7:45 and it clicked. The spook caught 7 nice bass and all were very shallow. Key was finding deeper water (8' or more) around docks. Biggest one went about 4 pounds. As I fished my way out around 9am I could see huge schools of shad and they were pretty good size, 2"-3". Pulled out a chrome rattle trap and would fish that between docks. Caught 6 or 7 on rattle traps. Around 10:30 topwater action stopped so I started looking offshore. Found two new spots that looked promising and caught 8 more on plastics and deep diving crankbaits. 4 pounder was the biggest, but caught 5 or 6 that would have been just under 4 pounds. All in all I had a pretty good day on LBJ on turned out to be a beautiful cool fall day. Off the water around 2:30 when the wave boats ran me off the deep water spots.
