2013 Yamaha SHO. Only makes sound when boat is in gear. Additionally, the more gas I give it, the faster the cadence of the sound you hear. That’s why I believe it’s the lower unit.

You may want to check prop to casing clearance. If you have changed props lately thrust washer may be worn . Yamaha seems to have a problem with this recently.

Not sure which bearing it is but it’s common , eventually will lock up making you think you blew power head
