Had a 1976 Roughneck made in Smackover, Ar. with a 115 Evinrude. It was a tank. Then in 1978 bought a Skeeter Wrangler 120 with a 140 Evinrude, $6,500.
One of the first in Ark.

In the 60's I bought one of the first fiberglass bass boats that Terry made, a 12 foot with an 18 horse Evinrude. it had stick steering up front. Nothing built in, had to add seats, gas tank but I thought I was in bass boat heaven. Fished all over Rayburn in that little boat. Sold it years later for what I paid for it.

Never test the depth of the water with both feet.

Bobby

I just recently toured Pro Gator Boats in Benton, Louisiana to look at their boat construction. They have a boat in their line up now that I believe is from the old Terry line up from the later years but probably their most popular model and one of the earliest high performance bass boats. Most folks that had this boat loved them and it was the old 4.7 Terry. Howard Griffin Marine in Monroe, Louisiana sold these boats back in the day and they sold a ton of them, with most of them having a Johnson 85 Javelin and a Motorguide Brute trolling motor. Most folks would add a Lowrance or Humminbird flasher or two. The thing I remember as a child was seeing these little boats " fly" ; one of the first boats I can remember that had really good bow lift, and the sound of those old Johnson Javelin motors was just incredible; it sounded like and old Chevrolet 350 V8 with a Quadrjet carb and the breather flipped but a lot louder. You could hear them coming miles down the lake.

Same thing with Norris

Yep, stopped by the Norris Craft factory this spring. Mac will still build you one... Says they mainly do rehabs of older boat, gelcoat repairs and fiberglass work for the state...

Glassport Boats in Corbin, KY got ahold of the Shadow molds and built boats for a while... Bought one new and split it down the middle on Lake Cumberland... Damn thing wouldn't sink... Dan

You're showing your age talking about them old howling Johnrudes.I can remember sitting on Rayburn on a quiet morning and listening to them howl at the moon all the way from Sandy Creek to Peckerwood point. Then the comparison to the Quadrajet with a flipped breather, literally took me back 40 years. Thanks for the memories.

Cmack yes I’m that old and I can remember the first ever Skeeter Wrangler HP series boats and some of the early Hydro Sports. You’d see them come by on the lakes at home with almost no hull in the water. When I saw that as a kid I knew that one day I’d be flying on the water. My first “air craft” was a Ranger 300 series I bought in the mid 80’s. I still love it........
